My Dad gave me some silver today!

DarinDarin Posts: 6,307 ✭✭✭✭✭
My Dad suprised me by putting a box of old 90% silver coins in front of me and saying I could have them. I offered to calculate the amount of silver and pay him for them, but he refused saying I can have them free.
Here's what was in the box.

3 1964 Kennedy halves
48 Washington silver quarters(fine to about unc.)
1 standing liberty quarter(well worn)
77 roosevelt silver dimes(nice looking, most not very worn)

Totaling around 15 ounces silver.

Plus, there were 18 clad dimes and 9 buffalo nickels(all the dates are worn off) so I'm figuring he gave me $2.25 to take 15 ounces of silver off his hands. image

Nice score! My mother did the same thing to me with wheat pennies
she collected and I put the best into my album. Yes there was some
silver but nothing like what you scored! congrats.

Now sit down with him on a cold rainy afternoon and see if any "mean" something to him... If any do, pull them out
and place in a "never to be sold" box.... There have been many threads saying they "wished they had kept"......image

These don't mean anything to him. I think he bought them over the years from coin/bullion dealers, they're not coins he collected as a youth or anything. He does collect some coins, mainly the Morgan dollar series in circulated condition.

I have put away about 35 dollars of silver coinage for my
youngest son. It contains Standing Lib Quarters, Barber Halves
Mercury dimes, Barber dimes, pre 64 Wash Quarters and a few
Walking Liberty halves. The grades probably run from full good
to VF. Got them all from pocket change about 10 years ago. Not
much since. Too many of you guys out there looking I guess.

You have a great dad. Treat him well.

I've pulled 3.95 in silver from change in the last year or so. Suprised they're still floating around.
