<< <i>Rays fan and faux Rays fan (really just a Philly hater)
    >>

I hope this isn't directed towards me. I'm in no way a Philly hater.......my dad's from right in between Harrisburg and Philly, aka Amish country, and I actually like it a lot up there. I thought about going to Penn State or Villanova for a while, but money kept that just a dream.

Why so much anger towards Tampa Bay, man? That's an honest question. It's not like this is Red Sox-Yankees, so I'm kind of puzzled. >>

You are the Rays fan. The faux Rays fans are those who would just like to see the Phils lose.

I lived in Tampa before moving farther south. Been in FL for 15 years.

I believe that if it wasn't for the northern transplants and tourists, much of the State would be called "Florissippi."

I live there for the warm weather and it's an ideal place to practice my profession, although my work has kept me from spending much time at home over the last year.

I'll never move back north, but Florida does not have the best government or educational system. A State it's size should be much farther along.

might be time to start thinking about a WS MVP - Can you give it to Howard despite the lack of hits because he's had 2 key HR's? Still at least a game to go before figuring it out.

I think the man on the mound tomorrow will be not only wrapping up the championship, but also the MVP

Nope. I think it will come down to a pitcher if the Phils do in fact win the WS which most likely will happen.

Perhaps Cole Hamels with a shut down game tomorrow night?

That just might of been the last pitch that Howard see for the 2008 season. I don't see them pitching to him tomorrow.

MAN! You never want to say never ..... BUT, the Rays are about as listless as a team can get.

One of two things are happening in this series. Take your pick.

    1. The Rays have failed to show up.

    OR

    2. The Phillies are just plain ol whooooopin the Rays A$$

    I will go with # 2 image

I think so. They didn't need the second dinger. Hamels pitched a great game in St Pete and if he duplicates that tomorrow, he should get it.

Agree with you x 1000. Where I live, I'm kind of "sheltered" from most of the "rural" parts but I have some family that lives in the central part of the state and they're kind of scary. image

I've found that if you stay along the coast, you SHOULD be fine, after that it gets a bit dodgy in some places.

The Phillies are playing great baseball right now.

Lil things like Rollins making sure that a DP would not be made in the first inning are things that win games.

The fact that he was 'out' but was called safe added icing to the cake.

I now predict the Phillies will win it all. Stevek understands the context, for those that care.

And McCarver for it seemed like forever, kept harping about the pitcher shoulda went for the double play. Actually, I clearly believe the pitcher made the right move trying to prevent the run. That would not have been an easy double play, with the pitcher trying to turn and make that throw to 2nd base - perhaps the pitcher "knew' that he was not very good at accuracy on a throw such as that. In any event, turned out as Bogart once said, it didn't mean a hill of beans as the Phillies blew the Rays away.

And you're right about the base running by Rollins. Frankly, I've been very impressed by the fundamentals of the game displayed by the Rays, manufacturing a number of runs in this Series - good sound baseball played by them and even though they won't win this Series, they can be proud having played some excellent baseball. Although the Rays manager's "strategy" in the other game with that 5 man infield I think was definitely flawed - not a good idea there at all.

I agree. I would rather stop the run and one out, then give a run and hopefully get two outs. A runner from 3rd should beat the two outs. McCarver did also mention that like 30 times.

Also that was a terrible call. I could understand if the guy barely touched the runner, but he had like 4 inches of the glove on him.

The correct play (IMO) was going for the double play, the runner from first was like 10 feet from first when the pitcher had the ball.

The batter runner was Howard. McCarver was spot on in his analysis.

The double play gets them out of the inning.

Instead Rollins deeked him into going for him and even if he was called out that would make 2 outs not 3.

The phillies would still have a runner in scoring position and still be batting.

Just my take on that play.

No, it was the right move based on the the circumstances - Firstly, Howard is not "that slow"...it's not like he's crippled or something..secondly the intangible here is how the pitcher makes the turn and fires to second base and perhaps the pitcher didn't have confidence in his ability to make that throw accurately - I used to pitch...that is not an easy throw to make, and pitchers don't always practice that throw that much - I have a strong feeling that's the answer. Also it was anticipated that it would be a low scoring game even though it didn't turn out that way...runs would be at a premium and the pitcher didn't want to give up the one run if he had an "easy" chance to make the out...and of course it should have been an easy out which the tag was made but the ump blew the call.

I didn't look for it, but was the pitcher asked about that play?. someone provide the link if they see it.
