it's official, my 6 yr old daughter is a collector

Well I consider it official, my 6 year old daughter is a coin collector. Her Great Grandma and Grandpa sent her $100. Grandma told her to spend it how she wanted to. Being the typical 6 yr old, I figured toys, but oh was I wrong. She blurted out a gold coin, and I was like wow, really? She said yes, I want to get a gold coin. Ok, shock number 1. Shock number 2 came at the bank when she went to cash it. I asked her if she wanted 5 $20's, 2 $50's or 1 $100 bill, again I figured she would go for the 5 $20's since 5 was more then the others. WRONG, she said she wanted a $100 bill. I'm thinking "That's my girl".
So, off to the coin shop. She said down and let the coin dealer know she wanted to look at gold coins. Now our coin dealer knows she collects so he didn't look funny to her at all, and got out some gold coins to look at. Daddy figured he would have to give her some money if she went for and actual gold coin, which is what I was rooting for, but she choice a Australian 1/10 oz gold coin commemorating the Year of the dragon. She also found a 1 oz silver commemorating the same thing, so she picked them both, and negotiated a price. The customer next to her was looking at her, then me, then the coin dealer and was like beside himself. He then had to ask how old she was, and my daughter looked at him and said 6. He look at us and said that is was nice to seem someone starting them out young with purchasing something worth something. The coin dealer told the guy that Rachel is a pretty regular customer and drives a hard bargain. The customer was amazed that a 6 year old was negotiating prices. LOL
Well, they aren't U.S. mint coins, but everyone her knows her, so here they are.

<< <i>Some pretty sweet coins to start out a collection with. Congrats! >>
Oh, that is nothing. She has a almost complete set of Mercury dimes (no 16-d), complete Roosevelt '46 to date, almost complete Jefferson Nickels, complete Washington Quarters '32 to date. She has a 1/10 oz American Eagle coin, a set of 1900 coins minus the gold coins and various others. She was somewhat a collector before, but this proved she was an actual collector.
She plans on going to the coin show next month in MO with myself and my buddy.
congrats though
closest i come is my g/f's 12 yr old...now always calling me day n night asking about certain dates and what made them special
she talks her friends into checking out their piggy banks and asking all around her to save coins so she can screen them...she's after a 69-s ddo or a 92 close am penny
she had to think real hard when i offered a 1942 pr65 merc for the 64 pr65cam a/h kenndy...quick to boot up her computer to research "price guide"...then handed me that kennedy...happily

<< <i>did she get them for less than $100? >>
Not quite, I had to give her some money, but it was for a good cause.

BTW, since she really likes dimes, I thought she'd go for the little gold dollars but nope, she wanted a big gold coin instead. She said those dollars are too small. LOL
My 7 year old son loves coins too. He talks about collecting at least 2 or 3 times a day.
