How old were you when you started collecting?

I was wondering if the lack of young numismatists today means that there will be a shortage of collectors in the future. Do you think collectors enter the hobby later in life and do you think the current YN's will be life long collectors or leave the hobby and come back later in life.

I think there are more YN's out there than you think are out there.
Recipient of the coveted "You Suck" award, April 2009 for cherrypicking a 1833 CBHD LM-5, and April 2022 for a 1835 LM-12, and again in Aug 2012 for picking off a 1952 FS-902.
If I had it my way, stupidity would be painful!

A year older...a year later.

I do not believe this to be true. Every show I go to I see a good number of YNs. Sure, not all will be life long collectors, but there are more than enough collectors out there to replace us as time moves on.
And to answer the question, I was 11 I think.

Quarters are way too much money, for a young kid.
You want kids in the hobby? Wait till 2009 then bite the bullet and circulate as many wheat cents as you can. Do you really need a bunch of worn 20's and 30;s wheaties...worth a whole whopping 2 or 3 cents?
That kid who finds them will be a collector for life.
