Sometime between 1994 and 1996 I was at a friend's jewelry store when two men came in that were somehow affiliated with the wreck. They were trying to sell wholesale lots of the coins and I had the opportunity to pick through a box of examples and purchase one. I was told the smaller size was considerably scarcer and bought one with a COA. It is a 1/2 reale, about the size of a dime.
<< <i>Very cool. Actually the dates are 1783 not 1784.

Cool, yes, but not worth $1400. The El Cazador 8R clusters can be had for between $50-$100 a coin, with a decent, but not a huge premium for any cool characteristics.
I enjoy the uniqueness of sunken ship treasure but they just do not fit into my collection right now. Nor my budget just to have cool pieces of crusty coins.
