Englehard/JM Who cares

What is the current obsession with Englehard/JM bars? I mean I understand that they are considered to be among "the best and most popular" but there are others that are just as good and have been produced in the last 20 yrs. My personal standard is that if a company is allowed to make deliverable bars, their 100, 25, 10, 1 oz bars are plenty good. Why are people paying stupid premiums $2.00 per ounce when a bar of equal content are more like $1.25 over. Moreover people are complaining about the high premiums for Englehards... Lets get real here.

you could say the same about ASE, Maples, etc What about for gold (AGEs, Krugs, Pandas,etc). Those all fetch higher premiums.

I think perhaps Engelhards and JMs are harder to find in my experience? I don't see them very often.

i never understood it either but they appear to be the most liquid
at higher premiums over spot, thus everyone wants them if possible!

True...it may not make sense that they demand a higher premium......but it is how the game is being played right now.....so as a buyer.....you either have to play or pass.....

I've done both in the past 6 weeks; played and passed.....

Just the nature of the beast. Pick your battles carefully.

Same reason why brand name prescription meds cost more than their generic counter parts-- it's a confidence thing.

If you can get your hands on Engelhards/JM and other well known names for a good deal at your local stores, do it. That way one day you can get more on them on ebay.

I would suggest the same reason ASEs and Maples trade at higher premiums then generic rounds.

It is the assurance of quality controls at the manufacturing level.

The same reason I buy Chrarmin for my hiney. The angel soft brand may be the same. But I know Charmin
is consistent.

Do you not ever wonder when you are buying a Snowman or Santa silver novelty round, who made it?

Is their really .999 silver in this round or bar. I would rather pay a small premium for a SOLID name in manufacturing
than a fly by night smelter.

The premiums are there when you sell as well.....JMHO

I think Silver Eagles sell for a premium because the U.S. Mint charges its distributors a higher premium for them.
