opinions on this 1861 Indian cent

I am putting together a 1861 type set, and I need a nice Indian.

Could this be it?

What is your opinion?

Opinion? From those photos, pretty hard.

I'll venture EF45, possibly recolored - possibly not.

Not the greatest photos, but looks pretty decent..........XF45 seems about right.

ef 45 - au 55 is right in the range I am doing.

Well until I get to the 1861 dollar, then a good beat up, bent scratched, whizzed $1000 coin will have to do. image

Nice looking coin, from what can be determined in the photos. Looks AU to me.

Probably AU50. Remember these are 12% nickel, so the color often looks like that of a cleaned bronze coin.

Yes, I see no red flags in the color, at least as much as can be determined from the photos.

Based on the photographs.. XF45-AU50... cannot tell about color/cleaning etc... assume you can in hand. Cheers, RickO

I agree, looks better than xf45

I do not own this coin. But I might, I just wanted some extra opinions on it.

Looks like at least 45 details to me... these were notoriously weak at the tips of the feathers so that doesn't bug me. I'm seeing diamonds on the ribbon and a separated lower hair curl but the shadows in the pics really prevent me from going any higher with out the coin in hand. The color looks a little dark-brown to me but it could just be the shadows...

It all depends upon your grade targets for your set. If you are looking for nice EF-AU coins, it fits. I'd say the piece is probably an EF-45.

If you are doing an Unc. set, it's no where near Mint State.
