I knew that Mad Hungarian would come back a 9!

Sorry to hear about the Aaron. Also looked like a 9 in the scan, too.

Hegan and Moffitt were nice too. Plenty of resubs in there. PSA has to eat too you know. It was a nice rack though.
  • grote15grote15 Posts: 29,820 ✭✭✭✭✭
Agree with nam. A number of those cards could have gotten 9s. Tough grader on this sub. Worth trying again.

Wow, they looked better than the grades. I have about 25 '75 I was going to submit. I might have to review the cards again.
  • No 9??? The only thing I can think of is the l/r centering. It slightly detracts from the cards appearance. I would resubmit that one for sure.
  • um.......huh. that would likely be the nicest card we'll ever see in a PSA 8 holder (pre-resub crap-shoot throw a penny in a fountain).

here it is in the holder. i will plan to resubmit. new scan added.

My last sub had the same first three(151) as yours. If it's true that that means it's the same grader, then yes, he/she is very tough!!
  • I have the same card that I tried twice and no luck.

Bottom chipping makes it hard to get the 9 and t/b centering is a problem as well. chaz

These color borders always "fill in" and the corners look great on a scan of a high grade card. There must be slight fraying on two of the corners to receive the 8.

    David:

It'll be tough pulling a PSA 9 on that Aaron with the t/b centering. It's around 35/65 at best and more like 30/70. Good luck on the resub.
  • Pittfan,

Same card came back an '8' for me first time around. Crack and resubmit yielded the '9' it deserved.

    Sold for about a grand.

Pulled from a GAI cello from Baseball Card Kid.

Got three '10s' from eight cellos. Should've been more.

Congrats on a fine looking card.

    You were hosed.

Wow, those cellos must have been mighty fine! Usually, cards from 75 cellos are dinged due to the tight wrapping.

How is the centering top to bottom measured? Does anyone know PSA's answer on this. I think this could be an arguable issue. I have a feeling there may be a few answers to this question which lead to very inconsistant grading with this particular issue. JMO.

Actually, if memory serves, the apostrophe on the RB cards is supposed to be very highly positioned, so this card is actually very nicely centered.

i have opened a total of 5 - 75 rack packs in the last couple of years and have not yielded a 10 yet....and very few 9s. wax may end up being the better option for higher grades.

i purchased a 75 mini last week, busted it yesterday and i did not pull any miscuts. this is a first as well. there were some oc, but nothing worse the 75/25 and i'm planning on sending in 5 out of the 10 from the pack. i'm guessing mostly 8s.

    Thanks,

What is supposed to be versus what is are two different stories. All one need do is ask a seasoned collector about the t/b centering on a '54 Topps Ernie Banks RC and how PSA sees it.

It went from an 8 to a 6? Absolutely amazing!

Idferg, can you scan the card again sometime? I'm really curious if anything at all has changed since you first scanned it.

I feel like you are getting robbed.
  • jeffcbayjeffcbay Posts: 8,950 ✭✭✭✭
Could it have gotten damaged in the crack-out?

Could there have been damage during the cracking process? That card certainly looks mint to me. Sorry this happened to you.

there is no way that card should get a 6 or 7. Next time it will probably come back as being trimmed. That really sux.

insane.. I have a ton of cards I need to send in.. but my grades lately have resembled these..
I don't like cracking my own cards out and resubbing
  • bobbybakerivbobbybakeriv Posts: 2,186 ✭✭✭✭
I don't usually comment on grades, but that is horrible. That card is not a six. PSA blew this one.

    Absurd
  • BoopottsBoopotts Posts: 6,784 ✭✭
It's probably a 1/8" scratch that can only be seen under a certain light; one grader saw it, the other didn't. This kind of stuff happens all the time, as anyone who's done any serious cracking and resubmitting can attest.

Edit to add: I'm not trying to minimize the OP's disappointment. He has, obviously, every right to feel bummed out about this, as any of us would. But the only thing you can see in a scan is the centering and (sometimes) the corners, and that's just not enough information to make an accurate assessment on the grade a card should expect to receive.

  • ldfergldferg Posts: 6,751 ✭✭✭
i'll scan the card when i get it. from an 8 to a 6 is definitely not right....

  • I have mine listed on ebay right now, less the pubey. After the other one getting a 6 I don't believe I will try again.
  • mtcardsmtcards Posts: 3,340 ✭✭✭
    8 to 6??

I would be curious as to what PSA would say the reason for this is. Either they damaged it second time around, they have incompetent graders or the dart board was turned at an angle on the Aaron card.
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
  • ldfergldferg Posts: 6,751 ✭✭✭
    here are the 2.

8 before, 6 after resub - obvious flaw with top left corner.... image

  • What a shame. Did this get damaged in transition, the crackout or at PSA ?
  • ldfergldferg Posts: 6,751 ✭✭✭
good question. no way to pin point it. i did not scan after crackout from the 8 before resending. lesson learned.

    Thanks,
