Our great country was built by immigrants who came to the US
looking to build a better life for themselves and their offspring.
I think it's good for us all to remember this.
a)Guess what year my paternal grandfather came from overseas to the US, and from where?
I will give priority to the year, and if there is a tie, then use the location, and finally the first right answer.
b) Let us know where YOUR family is from originally, maternal and paternal.
c) enter only once, if you want to make any comments, then edit your original post-
d) This will end Wednesday night

My maternal grandmother emigrated here from Tunisia in 1923 (though she was an Italian citizen, the family was doing missionary work in Africa when Mussolini kicked them out for being vocal antifascists).
My paternal grandmother emigrated here from England in 1906 (though she always considered herself Irish, her family had fled the potato famine in 1848 and they never really assimilated into English culture).
Both of my grandfathers were born in the United States, although my Mom's dad's mom was born aboard ship in the Atlantic ocean as her family was emigrating from Sweden.
And thanx for the chance!

My Dad's side of the family came to North Carolina from the Scottish Highlands in the 1760's.
My Mom's side of the family immigrated to Louisiana from Wales in the 1830's.
My wife's Great-Grandparents escaped the Pogroms in Lithuania and immigrated to (of all places) New Iberia, Louisiana in the 1910's where the immigrant brothers became mule and horse traders. They Anglicized their last names to "Brooks", and never told their families their "real" last name! They saw America as a fresh start and an escape from persecution, and never looked back.

Guessing 1909 from the UK and suppose I have to be specific - how about Scotland?

My GF born in 1879 came to the US in 1899 from Russia
No one guessed exactly,
Someone did guess 1899 but didn't include where their family was from (I am trying to follow the rules)
There were 2 1898 guesses, so the first one won
All of my great grandparents came from Russia as well
So I am Russian
I found out a lot of information at ancestry.com
