Went thru this a couple of years ago. The X had a B/F on the side. Her pension fund was also much larger than mine. She hired the second best lawyer in the area. I hired the best - one mean old SOB that played nasty and went for the jugular, almost made me feel sorry for her - NOT. Well, to make a long story short, I still have ALL of my widgets, the house (which I just sold), the timeshare (which I wish she had gotten), and $60,000 from her retirement account (she got $0 from mine). Seems, after all of the political posturing, she didn't want to be drug-thru-the-mud in court so she settled. My lawyer was sueing her for adultry (made her look like an evil witch whore) and had her friends, boyfriend, kids etc. as witnesses against her.
Now if YOU have been a BAD BOY. . . Good luck because you can probably kiss your coins good-by!

Need the following OBW rolls to complete my 46-64 Roosevelt roll set: 1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S. Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!
Isn't it amazing how at one time you two were in love? You know, there is a theory out there that when God made Adam, Lucifer made Eve to antagonize poor old Adam. He was happy just hanging around with the animals and what-not. And the story goes that she enticed Adam to eat that apple so history could take its course, you know, Good against Evil. Man anguishing throughout history with the assistance of Lucifer's little demons called "LAWYERS" and with the help of Lucifer's chosen glorified ones, or as we know them, judges. Why do you think the prosecution and defense enter the judges chambers before divorce proseedings? It's not to discuss the case, it's to worship Satan and thank him for the agony and pain they are about to impart on man. Give her what she wants, get rid of her and recuperate. Piss Satan's little ones off. Eventually, you'll find the right woman that you, as a son of God can control, and the lawyers can be bannished to the bottom of the ocean, lower than whale chit....Just kidding...It must be the drink...hehehe
Just tell her you want your dog back, that's what we did during my buddies divorce case and the court ordered sealed bids for her dog. His bid: 2,000 her bid: 4,000, both were deemed late so they had to rebid: His bid: 100 bucks Her bid: 6,800.00...She won..
Buy a copy of the Greysheet and then call 3 dealers and ask them what they would pay for them based on that (i.e. 20% back of bid) because if you had to liqudate the collection, this would be the way it most likely would be done. Then I would ask for the coins that I wanted that equal 50% of that value. If there was something that she wanted (car, etc.) then negotiate to get the rest by giving up something she wants.
But don't stop at her jewelry, take inventory of clothes, shoes and perfume becuase most women spend some bucks on this stuff and they would be surprised how much some of it is worth. Not trying to be vindictive, but if it should be a 50/50 split then everything that was purchased during the marriage is a "marital asset".
I'd keep playing. I don't think the heavy stuff will be coming down for quite a while!
My e-book tells you in a straight forward, no nonsense, easy to understand manner how everyday ordinary people can get a bank account in the Cayman Islands, Your soon to be ex’s attorney will not be able to get at your money No way, No How, No Fuss No Muss.
It’s easy… let me show you how.

Ok silly me will say this. Find a friend open a pawnshop. Then pay a crack dealer a few dollars to steal your collection, tell the crack dealer that there is a pawnshop in the next county to collect your fee. That way after the divorce flip a few Gold beauties to your Pawnshop friend and get your collection back.
As much as divorce hurts 50/50 is fair reguardless of how it got aquired. Split it fair and hope she goes downhill. My ex could have moved up the ladder but chose a broke, bum to settle with. As she said he is creative and wonderful. Just glad she did not end up at the country club. That was a victory for me.

<< <i>Depends on your state of residence, source of funds used to buy coins, definition of “marital property,” etc. You need a lawyer not a message board. >>
Call me stupid but I actually would consider some replies on this "message board" from those experienced over a lawyer who knows nothing about coins. I believe I actually have credit, going over the community property I do not want, which might help "pay for" the collection, but this is one clever, angry broad I'd be dealing with here. Hey my love, you take this and that and I'll take the coins. Problem is, she'd go after them just to stick it to me. If this situation was real, that is ;-] >>
Most woman want their rings, necklaces ect. They all have value. Does she really want to split the baby? Not likely. If she feels she will loose something that she really wants, the tune will change. She just wants to get what you want the most. Not saying, cheat here. Just start acting MORE interested in her stuff. There are probably more prized possessions that she wants but you have no interest in. Start getting interested!
1. Go to a dealer with your entire collection, and tell that you want to sell it all together. As is. Make the dealer give you a written offer for the coins.
2. When you do this, go to a dealer that doesn't know you, so that he is tempted to make a severe underbid, thinking "Wow, here I can make a great deal".
3. When you communicate with the dealer, give the impression that you're not an expert. This will increase the probability that the dealer will count key dates as regular dates and so on.
4. If possible, officially seal the collection inside a bag, so that you can prove that the written offer is for this collection.
5. Preferrably, go to two other dealers and do the same. Then you have three independent offers, all in a price range where the dealers think they would get a real bargain.
If you can show off three independent offers to the court for an officially sealed coin collection, they will get the impression that you have actually tried to determine the real value of the collection. And... actually you have. Because that's what you would get for it. More or less.
6. Go through with the divorce, and be happy that you got rid of her.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edited: If you want to play dirty, you could of course get all the damaged and worthless coins in your collection graded at SGS, and let her have it for PCGS prices, while you keep the best ones (that are in NGC and PCGS holders) also at PCGS prices.
I'm not a lawyer but did get divorced. Jewelry is a gift. A coin collection is an asset unless it was given to you in bits and pieces by your wife.
Sorry if someone else said this as I didn't read all the replies. You'll never get a woman's jewelry unless you can show it was an investment asset or something.

John, Other than wedding bands...everything is an investment asset. High grade furniture or antiques ect. It all comes down to what it is worth to make an equal divide. She has to want something and her jewelry is not off limits when the dividing knife falls. So, fair is fair. That sentimental value thingamajig get a price tag too.
Tell her she can have the collection but you will take the house and kids.
More seriously, I think you just need to go for a fair valuation and split. If you then have room or credit, propose keeping others you want as that credit.

Depending on the total value o your coins?and how long you have been married and did you have any coins before getting married? A friend of mine went thru the same thing his lawyer said it may be cheaper to keep her lol, so he told he he did not want a divorce and wanted to fight and prolong it,make her wait, them went after all her stuff ,jewlery, antiques, etc, in the end she gave in and took $1000,00 less than 1% of what she knew he really had
GOOD LUCK WITH THIS And I feel for you my ex took me for over $15,000 But I did get the cat in the end she got what she deserved ,another divorce and had to file bankruptcy lol
Riveting, scary, educational, all wrapped up in one post. Wish you the best with your situation.
My only advice is to be aware that when/if she leaves, if it hasn't happened already, she may drain the bank account, max out the credit cards and lines of credit, and take anything of value she can load up and haul off. This happened to my friend and she cared not about her credit so to keep his clean he had to pay off all the credit solo. He chose that over bankruptcy. Her step-father was a very nasty attorney and was advising her all the dirty, underhanded things to do including false allegations involving their son. She pretty much did them all. It depends upon what type of person she really is but just be prepared for anything.
Witty sig line currently under construction. Thank you for your patience.

A friend of mine got divorced a couple years back. She didn't want the jewelry, just out of the marriage, so she just left it with the schmuck.
