So, I take it that today is "Super Slider Saturday" image

That coins is really nice for a slider, but I do see the tell-tale signs of rubbing on the hair.

    Here are three PCGS AU58's.

The 20 cent piece is a much more subdued rose color in hand

    29 works for me.

  • Here's my favorite AU58(FH), doubt it would go higher, but I think it's strong for the grade.

AU58 is a great grade in many series since it's far less expensive that a 61 and usually better looking. Represents good value for the collector's budget.

<< <i>Why are Au58 called sliders, I realize that this has to be one dumb question, but I never really knew why. Let me just say that I would think AU58's may be called sliders because they can be a ms63 the next time it is graded therefore they just slide by the last time they were graded and unfortunately got the au58 grade and not the higher ms63?image >>

Some old time dealers told me sliders got their name because they look like brilliant uncirculated coins that were slid across the top of a bar top creating a trace of wear on the high points. These coins are also called commercial uncs and Coin World uncs.

  • PCGS definition LINK

    slider
A term used to describe an AU coin that looks, or can be sold as, Uncirculated. Occasionally used as a reference to another grade; a slider EF coin, for example, would be a VF/EF coin that is nearly EF.
