I'd call it a Fine, overall. The wheat stalks don't quite appear to be "all there" for a Fine, but the cheek and jawbone are still separated which would be more indicative of a VF coin.

Regardless of the grade, the surfaces look nice and original.

I'll guess that ends up as a PCGS F12 if submitted. It's an F-15 detail-wise, but a couple of small nicks suggest a slight deduction is in order. The cheek and jawbone need to be much stronger to merit consideration for VF grades. Wheat stalks are also consistent with F-15.

F-15, based on weakness of the wheat stalks.

That picture of the reverse in the auction sure did a good job of "conveniently" hiding the rim ding at 9:30.

    Agree.
  • VF20 details...........net to VG10 but bagged cause of the ring ding.

    Good price though.

    I'd go with VF20 barely.

Bet it's already been bagged once though.

I think it grades F15, thats a techincal grade of VF20 - a grade for the rim ding. I would'nt send it for grading as a BB would be in order for the rim ding.

Nice coin. It appears to be a genuine F12/15.

High end Fine...shot VF20...the rim ding would not keep it out of a holder.

I was tempted as well on that one. I guessed the pics were hiding something....

High end Fine, but BB for damage. A great album coin at a great price.

    Real too !!

doh: do you really think a rim problem that size would get slabbed by PCGS/NGC? I didn't think they would accept it. Have you seen others slabbed with this problem?

I'm asking because I thought that would get it bagged for sure. I may be wrong.

Seriously...that coin would BB because of that rim ding?

Normally I would think this ding would probably get the coin bagged.

But since it's a key date, it *might* get slabbed with a net grade for the damage. They don't slab them with "net grade" on the label, but for key dates and Draped Bust and Flowing Hair stuff, it's pretty apparent there is leeway for problems with a slabbed grade a bit below what the details would suggest.

Without looking at anything other than the title and pictures, F-12 is my guess.

Congrats on the grade! Given that the original Ebay link is void, how much did you "steal" it for?

Congrats! You did well with the VF20.

Apparently the minor damage was competely ignored.

Nice coin, congrats on the grade, once I found it searching through the posts that is.

Is it really that hard to edit the original post with the new info? Well I guess it is Easter. You should have titled it, "Easter Grade hunt". image
