O-PEE-CHEE baseball set collectors

How are you guys doing on completing/continuing on with your sets ?
I've given up the challenge, but I'm sure some of you have not.
So what sets are you still working on ?
I know FB and texassportscollectibles(Jim) have completed the 71 and 72 sets, an amazing accomplishment to finish those graded.
Are most of you doing some graded, the rest raw ? Or are you still going for all graded sets ?

I'm still working on my 1979 OPC Baseball set, although it has been a slow crawl in picking up 9s for this one.

I'm doing them raw and graded, although they're not high priorities with me.

I did the 72 OPC as a companion piece to my 72 Topps set. Its actually enjoyable to try and find one card at a time for any sort of upgrade.
But I don't believe that I'll expand beyond that year.

I'd like to apologize up front, but, I have PSA Graded 1965-1973 OPC stuff up on ebay now.

Since I am spamming, (again, I apologize) I will just say, look em up under joead97dp.

    Ending Sunday night.

I want to also say, still looking for input for Joe for SMR for OPC Baseball 1966, 1967, 1968,
1970 and anything from 1973-77. Looking for people with very very good knowledge that
can honestly help with pricing to be included in the SMR sometime this year.

We already have people for 1965,1969 (ME!), 1971 and 1972.
    Thanks!

I've decided to focus on the smaller OPC sets from the 70's. I'm building graded '77-'79 sets. The '77s are tough. Great thread, by the way.

BTW - has anyone else noticed that '77-'79 OPC Wax is really hard to come by these days? I remember when you could pick up boxes from BBCE not long ago for a very reasonable price. Now you have to fork over almost twice as much to less reputable dealers on eBay for the same product. What gives? Has OPC gotten hot?

I don't know that I'd call OPC hot. I think that most dealers have had enough of selling OPC unopened material for a fraction of what Topps goes for. I've seen the same for 72 OPC. I picked up 6 complete Series 2 boxes for $900 apiece a few years ago. But, recently its been north of $1200 - $1500.

There's a guy I know who has about 10 sets from vending in 1978 and 1979 opc. I haven't spoken to him in years, but I've seen his
stuff, and it is beautiful. His ebay ID is paoldguy. Just send him a message and he'll respond. He told me his set price is
120 for the 1978 and 85 for 1979. He is retired, so he may be in and out for a few days being that it's the summer, but I think he will eventually respond. You will most likely find quite a few 8,9 and 9 o/c cards in his sets. Perhaps even a 10 in there. They are that nice.

What is the toughest of the 90s OPC set, not Premier, to complete raw??
  • Options
I'm going to have to say 1991. Only because the collation was so bad you'd have to buy a ton of boxes just to get set and the factory sets are sometimes hard to find.
Second on that list is 1994 because of the full bleed borders that are prone to chipping and the lack of lined borders make it difficult to tell if the card is centered.

Well, thought I'd add to this since it got revived.
I am now pretty happy with my 77-94 run of OPC. All the sets are complete and minty fresh. Once I get out from under winter, I'm going to extend an offer to fill sets with the boxes of commons I have. If anyone is interested, PM me and I save the wantlists in a file.
Actually, because my OPC sets are where I want them (some day I'll start a 76 set and work backwards). I have been concentrating on the few oddball issues that were printed in Canada for the Canadian market. Stuff like the 1987 Hostess stickers and the 1992 Diet Pepsi set. It's been fun and inexpensive so far.
What I'm really having trouble with is the 1990 Fleer Printed in Canada set.
These cards are hard to come by in either unopened or common-lot form.
But I was excited to learn recently that a number of the 1990 Fleer mini-box sets (League Leaders, MVPs, etc) were printed in Canada and are noted on the backs as such.
I'm in the process of buying these up with eyes toward creating minty-fresh and centered set for the pages that will go with the 1990 Fleer Canadian pages.
If anyone has any of these 1990 Fleer Canadian cards, please let me know via PM.
    That is all.

    PuruePete,

All it takes to sell a card like that is to wave it out in front of a 72 OPC collector who is happy to be able to find one or two cards a month to add to his registry set. I was upset that my fingers wouldn't type any faster!!!!

Sure is a beauty!! I'll be the guy looking out the picture window in the front for the next week or so!!!
