What to do with Ikes the bank wont take?

As posted in another thread I've gotten stuck with 40+ of these and I've tried several banks all of which wont take them.
I always thought that banks had to accept legal tender as long as it could be identified.

I'm sure all those bank tellers were coin collectors and could spot the AT job right when they came in
I would think they have to accept them too. I guess the times, they are a changin'.

I paid for lunch one day with 10 Kennedy Halves. The girl working at the counter insisted that I only was giving her $2.50; she even told me that they were only half dollars. Had to call over the manager for his expert counting skills

If only I could find someone who'd take them I would.
Anyone have anything good for 40 bucks on BST? Maybe I'll just send them in a box as payment

i would think a bank would have to take them......they can send them to the fed and be reimbursed (the dollars in turn will be destroyed but the bank is not out the $$)
the more obvious answer: sell on ebay as MONSTER TONED

A coinstar won't recognize anything that large.

<< <i>Make a deposit. Most banks will take anything if it is deposited into an account. >>
Not Regions bank. I've tried to deposit them at two branches locally and one in Nashville, TN. All of them called the "head teller". The head teller disappeared to I guess speak with the branch manager and then came back and said I'm sorry we cant take these.
Also tried two local only banks (Independence Bank and Banterra).

<< <i>I could be wrong on this... would have to research it again.. however, years ago, I recall, there was some debate about damaged coins/currency. The final word was, if it can be clearly seen that the item in question (for example, a dollar bill - the larger piece, over half) is legitimate currency, a bank must take it. That may have changed, however, I have seen nothing in trade papers or the media. Cheers, RickO >>
They have to accept legal tender but That means more than half of a piece
of paper currency. They don't have to take stuff that is extremely damaged
but the FED will replace it with good curreny.
Coins have to be current to be accepted by a bank. This excludes holed and
severely damaged coins. It could exclude extremely dirty coins but it does noy
exclude tarnished coins.
Talk to a manager. If they won't call one then walk back and find one.
If my bank refused to take them I would close my accounts and find another bank. I do not have time for a financial institution that will take some of my US money but not all of it. If we were discussing foreign coins I would understand but this level of service from a bank would be unacceptable to me. JMHO

I've not been able to find banks that have 38mm dollar wrappers.
Maybe the tellers are afraid of that toxic nuclear waste on them!

2. put $40 in your tank.
3. go the check-out and hand the cashier 40 Eisenhower dollars.

Or give them to charities, fund drives, red cross buckets, wishing wells, etc.
Or have a giveaway here--I will gladly take them off your hands.
Or-You could use them as a partial payment on your next tax bill.
Or use the ultimate solution---Sell them on ebay as monster toned coins.

There's no reason why they shouldnt accept legal tender.

Only the ones sold for collectors..And the 1976 silver set
Small saving type banks do not deal with the fed and thus can't take ripped/taped etc currency.
All one has to do is clean those coins up and spend them. If a business brings them (rolled) I doubt they would have a problem.

Banks are a business like any other, They do not have to take your coin.
Steve
PM Me your email address and I'll paypal you $47.50 and you can send them to me. I know some folks here in Ca that would be extremely appreciative to receive them!
As for banks not taking them, I think that's total BS on the banks part or else there pretty backwards there in the TN/KY Region.

Matter of fact I know they won't. (Wife is a VP for Chase)

Make jewelry and find someone who wants a gawdy colorful bald man adorning their neck or wrist.
Sell them at a flea market. Or use them as spacers under the legs of your kitchen table so it doesn't keep rocking back and forth. This also works well under the washer and dryer.
