And last, but not least....
I was so happy to finally get this one out of the way. I went with what I think is a nice PSA 5 even though I typically buy PSA 6 or 7's for 1967. It was hard to justify paying over a $100.00 for 11th regular issued card of Brooks even if it is a short print. I am very pleased with this purchase and it fits the condition of the other cards I have from the year. I try to keep a tight budget and this card suited it nicely. I purchased this one for $89.00 shipped.

<< <i>Here are my last 5. All are for my 30 key card collection from 1956-1985 Topps: >>
TJMAC, I am curious what this checklist is and how you determined which were key cards for you? I have toyed with the idea of collecting the "key" card from every Topps football issue, but there are some years where I find it difficult to pick just one.

This is a fun thread
El Snorto, I posted the following response on the show your collection thread last week:
"Good question. First off, I count only regular cards of the players, no combo's or All Stars unless it is a rookie i.e. Carlton, Niekro, Sutton etc. The only exception would be the Pete Rose and Stargell from 1963. I am sure I will give in and eventually buy them, but they are such ugly rookie cards I have a hard time justifying forking over around $400 for a Rose rookie.
Then I include all the major stars - Mantle, Aaron, Clemente, Koufax, Brett, Reggie etc. Then the minor star Hofers such as Billy Williams, Sutton, Perry, Niekro I would rotate theircards each year to stay under 30. I have pretty much all their cards in the 60's but in the 70's I am missing one here and there. Once I complete the 30 for each year, I will finish the Fleer and Donruss issues up to 1985 and then will eventually work my way back to Topps and Bowman pre 1955, which will probably take the rest of my life since I buy only PSA 5 and higher in the 50's. I may even expand a bit to finish my run of Perry, Williams, Sutton, Niekro etc and even add some of the new and future Hofers i.e. Rice, Sutter, Gossage. Who knows I may even branch into 60's, 70's and 80's Football, Basketball and Hockey. I will definitely stick with buying the star cards and limit my complete set building.
I started with 30 because that is what fit in my display cases and it seemed like a nice number to encompass all the stars from each year. It is really cool looking at all the great players from each year. It is like viewing little pieces of history and really takes you back to that time. It is also neat seeing how the big names changed over the years."
Basically, the key cards are determined soley by me based on how good I thought they were and how much I liked them as a player. Of course they had to be a superstar player no matter how much I liked them. So, a guy like Dave Stewart who is probably my all time favorite pitcher is not part of the 30 key cards. However, I chose Steve Garvey over Jim Rice and the early years of Dale Murphy 1977-1979 over a player like Dave Parker (except for his 1974 rookie). It really is pretty subjective that is why eventually, I will probably fill the rest of the missing pieces in once my initial run is done. It was a lot of fun deciding what 30 to do each year. I really can't believe how much progress I have made over the past 5 or so years I have been doing it. I now have cards I never dreamed of owning as a child. I was thrilled when I got a low to mid grade Mickey Mantle as a kid, now I own 11 different Mantle's!
Thanks,
Terry
