Maybe:
A dead body?
A horde of stolen cash?
A murder weapon?
A cache of drugs?
Even crime in progress?

S. Nevada for years. Always out in the desert looking for lost loot (actually documented from a robbery
in 1911). Spent several years covering several miles of open desert and foound absolutely nothing other
than the occasional lead bullet, shell casing or bubble gum wrapper (yes in the desert miles from the city).
However, one afternoon I got a huge hit at about 12". Heart raced, forehead began to bead up, and the
digging commenced. Ok, I found a box about 12" square filled with 1/2" square, green board, computer
chips. Yeah, modern computer chips. What the hay. Just buried them right back up, wiped the sweat
off my brow and moved on.
Wonder, to this day, what the heck they were doing buried in the desert, a foot deep, 10 miles from Vegas.

<< <i>Well, I guess I will say something... I have found a skeleton (pinged on the ring), a head (human, in a bush), and once.. a hand - only the hand.. with a ring... silver. Cheers, RickO >>
Did you call the police? What happened?
We laid out the bones to form a skeleton on my buddies driveway. No skull found, but we had everything else. My mom called the cops and they took them away but nothing was ever reprted back to us kids.
We were 7-8 years old. This was in Indian Hills Subdivision of Ritchie Hwy about 1970.
I suppose this is where my "detecting bug" started.

<< <i>Wouldn't it be cool to find the wagon loaded with 1906D mint dimes that supposedly fell of a cliff in the rockies? Now that would be the best!!! >>
Those might be in a river/stream downhill from wherever the accident occured. I have a gold dredge that captures coins quite well. Plus its got its own air compressor for diving. If you can pinpoint the exact location, I can get away from work for a couple weeks.

Why would coins be transported by wagon in 1906? I believe the Mint utilized trains by then.
Maybe somebody else has heard this story before and can shed some more details.
