Do you know RUSS?

This thread was spawned as a result of reading several different threads in which the posters address each other by name and act as if they know each other well...particularly Russ.

I was just curios as to how many of you know each other and have hung out at some of these live shows and how many of you just know each other from the notoriety on the boards/Ebay?

I only know Russ from discussion with him on these boards. I have also consigned many coins through Russ. I have been pleased with the rusults from my consignments and he has educated me on numerous coin related topics. He gets my image

when you are typing in your underwear or PJs, there is a certain atmosphere of informality built in.

I do not believe that it is a sign of disrespect in most cases.

I never met anyone from these boards, so far, but I don't mind if someone refers to me by my name or handle, or a nickname if that ever came up.

I have met dozens of board members at shows.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

He is readily identified by his unusal proclivity for walking on water. So if you at a coin show and you see a guy walking over the fountain at the entrance, you will have seen Russ. image

Never met him, though I'm sure we attend some of the same Northwest shows.
Had a couple of forum run-ins with him years back where BOTH of us acted righteous and somewhat obtuse.
Bought a gorgeous commem from him off Ebay a while back. A real keeper. That alone makes him alright in my book!

Selling coins over the internet is not a picnic in the park like some people might believe. Russ does it as well as ANYONE or possibly better.

There are some coin dealers out there that think that it is a god given right to beat up on buyers in the marketplace. Russ ain't one of those people. As a matter of fact, I think he might be one of a few sellers to whom the Hippocratic oath may apply.......'first do no harm'.....

    to himself ..............and others.

I wondered why everyone has such good things to say...

But then I realized I had bought a coin from him on ebay (not knowing who the seller was until much later) and it was very nice and well described and I was totaly happy with it.

So I can only add that he must be one of the good guys!

And I'm supposed to be Grumpy!

It is always a question of knowing and seeing, and not that of believing.

Our virtues, and our failings are inseparable, like force, and matter. When they separate, man is no more.
