Someone here posts it on the forum and the secret is out and either the ebay seller rasies his/her price or more bidders now jump in and the bidding war starts. Does it make you crazy?

I've thought many times that I was the only one seeing that coin.....yeah
As if that ever happens. 5 bidders in the last 30 seconds.....yeah, that's the real deal!

  • What really hurts is when you get the coin and realize you are the victim of a bait and switch. It is not the coin pictured at all.

You can assume that you are NEVER the only one noticing a nice coin on eBay.
  • So you were looking at the double struck IHC?

Trust me, you're never the only one that notices stuff on eBay. Even when theres >1 minute and few or no bids... there are people waiting to pounce.

23 Snipe Bids later.... and my $500 'wish'...is gone.

Nice photo of yourself for your icon, Realone. You'd look like a real coin nerd if you only wore glasses.

Personally, if the idea is to show a nice coin, I don't link to it until the auction is over. Especially if I'm interesting in sniping it. image

I've had the reverse happen at least two times when I had not noticed a coin until someone started a thread about it and then obtained it because of the thread. The first time was for a DB dollar that a seller in England had and someone posted it wondering if it was real. The discussion went on for a bit about how the BIN price was far too low for a real coin, but no one who read the thread knew the diagnostics until I read the thread and immediately hit the BIN and flipped the coin for 400% profit two weeks later. Another time this happened was for a wonderful, original type coin that many folks ooooohhhhhhed and aaaaaahhhhhhed over, but they thought the price was too high. I waited until the end of the auction, bid and won the coin, which immediately I knew I could sell for a profit. However, I have kept that second coin in my collection.

If no one else bids then, while it may be rare, it isn't popular.

Sniping... I love it.... However, I always assume the world is looking at whatever I am interested in (on ebay). Therefore, if I really want it, I make sure I available at the close.. and snipe with 2-3 seconds.... nuclear bid... I always get what I want. Cheers, RickO

I never seem to get an item when I'm the underbidder. No second chance offers or anything!

Ummmm i don't think so. I was the only bidder on the 1836 O-121 CBH i picked up. An r-5+ die marriage and by far one of the most popular and costly.

I've tried to snipe in the last 30 seconds and my computer dump or the system was slow and the bid never got it.

More often though someone like Ajtress has seen the coin and is waiting to snipe with about 5 seconds left. Any old holder or possibly undergraded slabbed gold coin invariably seems to go to this guy.

No reason to ever get mad about a never-existing point/scenario!!! Unless Heritage or some of the big houses make their rarities available through fleabay.

    Or someone from China!!!

I started a couple threads a while back about un-common date bugs bunny variety Franklins... for sale on a particular website. They only had one of each date. About a month later, the population reports from graders and the inventory on the website more than tripled. I'm fairly certain it was from the number of views and replies the thread got here and people started taking a closer look at some of their 54 and 51 Franklins.

My worst fears are that someone on these forums posts a coin I am watching that I was hoping nobody noticed.

Yes it does make me crazy.......................

image I also always assume that there are at least 2-3 others waiting in the weeds to place last second snipe bids. Even in a snipe bid you MUST bid absolutely as high as you're willing and can afford to pay. Then, if someone else overbids you, you couldn't afford it anyway, so just move on to another one within your budget. There will (almost) always be a similar coin offered before too long. image

either way i have lost to this person more then once. they pay strong
money and occasionally you will see the same coin pop up on heritage a month or two later.
