Im thinking of picking up a Joba Chamberlain Exquisite Rookie Auto....Advice?

Is this a dumb move. I kind of just want this card. I know pitchers are risky buys, but I like him and he seems to have a bright future. Someone talk me into or out of this buy.

The day after you buy this card he'll get traded to the Twins and his card will be worth less, if not worthless.

This card is too high right now...this guy is a reliever right? Step away from the wallet and move slowly away.

I agree with you Mr. Allen , Just picked up a Joba Chamberlain Autographed baseball a few months ago for the little guy , cause it was just one of those guys we "had to have"

I think he will have a bright future and the only bad outing I have seen him have was the one day with the bugs flying all around him , which was completely understandable .

His stats before turning pro are ridiculous .

His stats after turning pro are ridiculous .

He's got a few pitches we still have not seen .

I think unless he gets injured he will continue to improve , Jeeeze, can you imagine ?

The guy is already an animal , I would hate to have to face him as a batter .

Don't walk , run and get it !

After the signing of Hawkins and Rivera I would imagine Joba will be a starter.

A guy who can throw heat for an inning doesn't always translate a great starter. You can name the number on hot pitchers on
one hand. I really think you are buying when its high and should wait until it is lower. I know its hard to wait, but unless he
comes out and wins 20, it aint going too much higher. Hitter get big money not pitchers.

All good points Kevin. He started in the minors and he was pretty good, but I probably should wait. The key is to focus and wait to buy the cards I really need like the low grade 51 Bowman Mantle and 01 SP Authentic Tiger Woods. Focus Allen, Focus.

Well , I don't want this to come out the wrong way , But I hope you're wrong and this guys cards all go through the roof over night .

I wish the guy a great career and I believe he's got a good a shot as anyone else out there .

If I had the cheddar right now to get it , I would get it .

Most of you gentlmen know the ins and outs of this card business a whole lot more than I ever will because that is what you do , you buy to make money in the future , I just buy to keep them .

    So I understand . . .

But he don't just throw heat , also from what I understand , he will be a starter next season.

I passed by the new Yankee stadium this morning , The entrance is almost completed and it looks just like the original yankee stadium , I was like OMG !! I took some pictures , I'll try to get them on here as soon as I can , I was happy to see that .

Now your talking. I would get the Tiger Woods rookie!! I say why wait though on the Joba. If he has a good start, his cards will go through the roof. He plays poorly, they will go down and you will not want any of his cards anyways.

How much is the Joba going for ?
  • AllenAllen Posts: 7,165 ✭✭✭
I have wanted the Mantle and Woods for a long time, I started wanting the Joba last night. I would rather have a few very elite cards than more high end cards. Of course if I pass on the Joba he will win 26 games with and ERA under one and Tiger Woods will get arrested for snail fighting.

Get the lo grade '51 Bowman Mick, a great choice! I have mine and am thinking about getting a twin '51 B Mays to go with it... he had a kinda OK career.
  • Big guy, strikeout pitcher, could be either a starter or a reliever. A good comparison might be Pat Malone and his cards have increased a lot and held their value. Based on that I would think it would be a very smart investment

  • Yeah, but Pat Malone played a 100 years ago, a different time. Now Joba will have a new auto each year, from each card set.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!
