  • What do you guys thing about todays trade? I don't know anything about these prospects.

That was definately a quantity over quality trade. With the crisis the Pirates minor leagues is in with pitching it makes sense to get as many young arms as you can. 1 player was the Yankees #3 overall rated prospect according to Baseball America.

We cant trade Bay now unless its for a proven ML player and a prospect.

I agree. We need some top notch prospects. The one guy we got in the Nady trade is 3 and 9 this year. No Phil Hughes or Ian Kennedyimage

Man the Pirates seem to be a shoddy organization if they keep having to perpetually trade their best players for prospects.

This is what the good citizens of PA get for ponying up mega-$$$$$ for that jewel of a stadium in downtown Pittsburgh. You guys should be outraged.

Well Bay had an awful year last year and Nady is perenially hurt so it's not like were talking two future HOF's but Bay is definately a high quality player this year. The emergence of Mclouth and having Tabata, Mccutchen and Morgan in the minors and Pearce and Michaels already in the MLB means they have depth at the OF position.

The reason why we stink so bad is we have been horrible judging pitching talent. We are running guys like Benschoten out there who has the worse ERA in the history of MLB with a minimum of 80 innings pitched. Also this Herrera guy who anyone can see does not have MLB stuff. We ruined Gorzelanny's confidence and Snell turned Oliver Perez on us. Also our last 4 #1 draft picks who were pitchers combined to win 1 game at the ML level and we just released the 2002 #1 overall pick in all of MLB without him winning 1 game.

Trading from our strength OF depth for our weakness P would make sense, but no instead of getting a young MLB pitcher with huge upside we are getting another OF????????????????? Why not Josh Johnson? Why not Alfonseca?

Not happy with Andy Laroche seeing that we have Neil Walker in AAA. Just demoted Jose Bautista and he is gone after this year.

Lets see how our trades are doing in the Minors and Majors.

Daniel McCutchen (Nady)- 9-11 this year with a 3.33 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 127 Ks in 148 IP. 25 yrs old. Only 35 BB in 148 IP.
Ross Ohlendorf (Nady)- 2-2 this year with a 3.25 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 22 K's in 27.2 IP. 26 yrs old. Only 5 BB in 27.2 IP
    Jeff Karstens (Nady)- 2-1 with a 1.23 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP.
    Andy Laroche (Bay)- Hitting 0.189 with 2 HRs and 5 RBI's in 37 ABs. 5ks to 4bbs.
Craig Hansen (Bay)- 0-1 with a 3.18 ERA and 1.76 WHIP. Only pitched 5 and 2/3 innings.
Brandon Moss (Bay)- Hitting 0.201 with 2 Hrs and 5 RBI's in 54 ABs. 18ks to 8bbs. He's striking out every 3rd plate appearance.
Bryan Morris (Bay)- Coming off Tommy John surgery, 2006 first rounder. Buried way in the minors.
Jose Tabata (Nady)- Hitting 0.361 with 1 Hr and 5 RBI's in 36 ABs. 1 BB to 7 Ks.

Results are this, we got nothing special.

Karstens is smoke and mirrors as he only has 8Ks to 7BBs. He has pitched in the MLs before and never put up solid numbers.
Andy Laroche has confidence issues and has never become a player even with opportunity in LA. Maybe his brother will help, who knows?
Craig Hansen has terrible ML numbers and is a walk machine. If he finds control he will be the best of the bunch.
Brandon Moss strikes out way too much for someone with no power.
Ross Ohlendorf has never broke through in the MLs despite chances. Average numbers at all levels.
Daniel McCutchen looks to be a 3 to 5 starter with some ability to strike someone out. Throws strikes.
Jose Tabata is 2 years away from helping this team
Bryan Morris is a project and is 2 years at least from helping.

The guy to watch in the Pirates organization is Barthmaier.

Also Gorzelanny pitched 6 shutout innings yesterday in AAA. Wonder when he will get the call?

Well we have one ML pitcher in Maholm. Snell looked good today, lets see him do that for 3 or 4 starts in a row. He had only 3 quality starts in his last 10 games before last night.
