I did see David Hall at Orlando, but he has not been on these boards in 3 years ... and the market now seems bullish for top end stuff.

Thanks for reposting this. I didn't realize there was remaining BongoBongo material and this brought a smile to my face.

This bull market is making me ill. I d have everything I ever wanted if I had just purchased them all in 2002. I technically have never been in a bear market, and like the Tech and Internet stocks of the late 90's, this market seems like it CAN’T go down.

I would beg to differ. LOL

A group of friends I knew in Massachusetts got together and formed business they called "Lie, Cheat and Steal Coin Company." The name was a satire on the ethics of some of the people who were in the coin business at the time. There were some very bad actors in the business at that time (I could tell you a few stories.), and that helped get third party grading started.

They actually got an ad in "Coin World" with a logo that had a group of guys dressed in stripped jump suits in a jail cell. Other dealers were up in arms, and that was the only ad they ever posted.

During the crazy "Jimmy Carter market," they paid $19,000 for a 1910 Proof set. All of the coins were raw because there was no third party grading back then. As I remember the set, it was an original group of coins, just it had come from the mint with the classic blue toning for the silver pieces. The trouble was, the silver coins were a little dull. I had a 1909 set, at the time, which I liked better.

At any rate the air went out of the market, and the prices starting dropping fast. They were very lucky to get out of that set with a $6,000 loss. The prices continued to get down after they sold the set.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I'm trying to recall what vehicle Mr Bongo drove🤔

Over the years there have been some all-time fabulous threads on the forum. Maybe if some were resurrected, some of the walmart post mint damage threads by alts could be pushed down the ladder.

    Have a nice day
