  • THAT SUCKS!!!!

    What happened? "Downsizing"?
(Old man) Look I had a lovely supper, and all I said to my wife was, “That piece of halibut was good enough for Jehovah”.

(Priest) BLASPHEMY he said it again, did you hear him?

    That sux.

Maybe you're better off in the long run, not working for someone that schmucky. What cause did they give?

Was it a layoff, or did they fire you?

LonelyP - could be downsizing, the parent company has been in bankruptcy protection for sometime, this is part of their re-organization, they are spinning of their holdings....we were one of those

Lord Marcovan - They havent given me any reason yet! They came in 10 minutes before closing on Sunday Nite and said "This place is hereby closed and under new ownership" I am hoping to get a reasonable explanation, it will help with closure.

EbayTrader - No Names until I get my final PayCheck, then I might throw them under the bus, you know what they say, don't burn bridges....

gecko109 - That is an awesome pic of a Texas Commem, I am starting to feel a little better already!

(Sorry, I'm grasping at any excuse possible to post and repost this recently-dug piece. I just can't get over how sharp it is.)

I'd much rather be COIN hunting that job hunting, that's for sure.

I wish you the best of luck, TC71.

Sometimes, in my experience, these things, while real CRAPPY in the short run, can be a blessing in disguise.

Sounds like syrupy greeting-card tripe, but in my case, it's been true, once or twice. Getting sacked or laid off from one job put me in a position to find a better one. But the in-between period was no fun.

I like the saying: "The truth shall set you free, but first it shall p*ss you off."

Last time I was in your unenviable position, I found a Rolling Stones tune going through my head a lot, for some strange reason.
(And I've never been a huge Stones fan.)

You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometime, yeah,
You just might find... you get what you need >>

And I did. I got what I needed, and in time, the job situation improved, and I'm happy again. I even have some of what I want.

'Twas just rocks on the road, and now I've driven past 'em.

Legally- they can not end employment in this fashion- Federal Law has mandated that when releasing an employee from position- it must be in person and in writing.

Otherwise known as wrongful termination- and many folks have won substantial $$ for this inept action on the part of an employer.

Gary- knowing you- you will bounce back- and find something in the same line as you were in- plenty of places to go my friend.

Good Luck in the hunt- take the holiday off.

Oh here is a coin for you..

Man that sucks, I don't know you, but you will rebound my friend. Your next phase starts on your journey in life. I know you will rebound and sink you ball into something that will make you much happier. I know you saw this coming? Maybe not before Christmas, but companies like to zap you at the end of the year while in crisis, then start fresh on Jan.1st. God Bless you and your family. Yaha

Sorry to hear about this...the way in which they handled it and their timing is absolutely sh*tty. Earlier this year, I left my job of 9 years after a buyout and demotion due to downsizing, so I understand your frustration. Everthing happens for a reason, and the results of this change will be good for you in the end! Here's a colorful Kennedy to cheer you up:

It happens to me about every two years or more. Its part of the IT business now a days. I'm talented and experienced (Worked with one third of the gang of nine) and we come close to loosing everything right before I find something else. Takes about 3-6 months to find a real job. You can get a job at the mall until then but that only buys groceries.

  • Oh yeah, EIGHT days before Christmas. Bunch of GRINCHES my ex-employers are!....TorinoCobra71

I've been an employer for over 31 years. Businesses don't get rid of people because they're mean.
Either the people let go weren't producing, or the business needed to reduce the number of employees due to lack of work.
In the summer of 1981, I had a new building built for my machine shop and bought 3 new machines. I had 15 employees working in a 2 stall garage at that time.
I moved from my existing facilities to the new building in September.
The last work day before Christmas, we had a party. I had bonus checks for all the workers as usual.
I got a call during the party, stopping all my work indefinately.
So, after giving out the bonuses, I had the pleasure of telling my workers the party was over. Really over.
My business didn't recover until 1984.
I understand how you feel, but I'm also certain there was a justifiable reason for your employer doing what they did.

Sorry to hear about the job loss. I can only relate that in my 28 years in IT this is almost normal business. One time I showed up at work, and the employees milling around outside informed told me the bank had shut the company down and locked the doors. It was hours before we could get anything personal out. We had no warning, and the paychecks from the day before bounced. Another time I worked tons of unpaid overtime for months to win that new contract, and once the company did, our group was rewarded with a 10% pay cut. Three weeks later I found a better contract with a 10% raise, so I kind of laugh about that one.

So stuff happens, but it's important to get back up, dust yourself off, and kick butt! Hang in there...monster.com is a good place to post your resume.
