I am very sorry to hear that. The jerks that let you go from your job 8 days before christmas have no soul. I hope that your boss gets cancer in his testicles and his nuts fall off.
Sorry to hear about what they did, especially the way the did it. I too used to have an IT job and was let go when things turned sour. In fact, they let all of their IT people go except one. As it turns out that one person had already been interviewing for a job elsewhere and left two days after everyone in my group was let go. By the end of the week, I had been hired back as an independent contractor but I renegotiated my terms and ended up making twice what I was before (no benefits though). My point is that just because today is crappy, tomorrow is a new day.

I echo that someday you will look back and think the worse thing that happen to you will turn out to be the best thing. My experience is not just job related but marriage related too.

Sorry about your misfortune. Things will get better. If it's any consolation, I once lost a baseball coaching job at a high school because of personality conflicts with my Principal. I found out about it when my daughter came in reading the Prep Sports section of our local paper on the Sunday before school ended, crying and asking "Daddy, why did you get fired?". It was the first I'd heard about it. Three months into the next school year, that same Principal was removed because he got caught red-handed changing student's grades behind the teachers backs so they would be eligible to play football. Strange but true story. I'm a big believer in karma these days. By the way, it took me exactly 1 day of looking for a new teaching/coaching job before I found a new job at better school, having been given great references by my previous Principal and Athletic Director. I hope you have the same kind of good fortune. Hang in there.

Sorry to hear about the job loss. I was laid off in the early 90s, everything ended up OK, but I was worried for the while I was job hunting.... Since then, I've changed careers - I'm happier, more secure & more money -
Gary if there is one thing I know about Palm Beach County is that you are in one of the best area's of the country to make either a lateral move, if not step up to the next level in whatever type of work you were doing. Good Luck on your job search.

I am very sorry to hear of your situation, Gary. It's not a comfortable feeling, especially coming during the Holiday season. As most everyone has said, this will open the door to something better. I'm sure you knew before hand that employment with a company in its particular state at this time was unstable at best. This will give you time to not only find better work, but spend more time with the family during the "Season". How many were affected by this closing?
