What ever happened to the artist Boggs (sp) that produced his own paper money and plastic coins?

I remember watching a TV show about him. He produced his versions of his own currency. They were considered art and were highly sought after. On the TV show he walked into a Harley Davidson motorcycle store and traded the bills he had made for a brand new Harley!! The Harley cost around $170 in Boggs bucks if memory serves me right.
Later Boggs started making plastic boggs coins and traded some Bogg's coins to a well known dealer at a major coin show for gold coins. That story made the front page of CoinWorld magizine a few years back. I know he had huge legal troubles with the US goverment over conterfieting his own money, but all he was doing was trading his bills for merchandise.

What ever became of Boggs?

Good question. I remember several articles about him.

I for one would gladly accept Boggs' bills at a par with US paper money, at least up to the $50 denomination or so. (The hand-drawn originals, I mean.)

Not so sure about plastic Boggs coins, though.

Not sure, but he seems to be keeping a lower profile these days, I suspect that is because of his legal problems.

Yeah, I'm no buyer on a print at $250, nosiree.

But like I said, I would take Boggs' bills at up to $50 face (maybe $100), for an original.

He can keep the plastic coins. I hadn't heard about them.

I've got a complete set of the six different orange plastic Sacagawea "Boggs Money" coins.
If it is true that he's in a Florida jail on meth charges, it's a sad and unfortunate development.

I hate to hear Boggs is having drug problems.

I always like the way he bucked the system. The "Man" came down on him pretty hard for it though.

That is sad to hear.

I did my own "Boggs" bill once. One summer back in 1981 I got some ball-point pens and went to work (I've come a ways since then):

You can't send him pens and such. I read that on the Leon County Jail website. I sent him a note and some commissary money.

I have been looking for years to buy an original Boggs piece. They are impossible to find and if you could, they would cost a lot. I like his currency much more than the goverment's. Boggs currency resists inflation and appreciates.

There was an article on Boggs in the Numismatist a while ago (when the publication still had "The" in its title

). It said he traveled to several shows accompanied by 2 (!) very attractive women.
