Cameron...give us some idea when these coins were slabbed. You do not have the INS slab on your website.

According to the late, lamented Conder101 (well, thank God not actually that late and lamented insofar as he still posts ACS in Sleepy Hallow) the slab on eBay is an INS 3 or 4 slab. The diference hinges on a certification number on the reverse, and I did not see a picture of the reverse on the link. INS 3 and 4 slabs apparently date from 1989 to 1992.

By the way, the book I used to look this up is Conder101's outstanding book, "Third Party Grading/Certification Services." It is copyright 2003 and is top notch. It's only drawback is the fact that with this being the golden age of bottom feeding slabbers, there are a lot of more recent companies not listed. But for the early stuff it cannot be beat.

TNFC and I were battling out for these slabs.

The slabs went for huge bucks. I missed out on my large bid the first time around.

By the way, the INS slab is the INS 4 slab copyrighted in 1988. They had three previous versions of slabs/holders.

They were the very first company to authenticate and grade coins (other than the Federal Government GSA sliver dollars) back in 1975.

This information is in conder101's book.

See the below reverse of the INS slab which shows the copyright date.

    Oreville-

Congrats on your auctions...especially the white label NGC. I was watching that one and you got a good deal...way to go!

Not to speak for Cameron...but what the heck. Remember that Cameron's site is for sample slabs, so unless INS created a sample, then it would not be listed (although he does have some cool samples he has yet to post!).

    Speaking of samples...

I picked up some really cool sample certificates recently...ever seen these?

ANACS (sure, okay you have heard of them, but ever seen a sample photo certificate?)
ANAAB (post-ANACS at the ANA...another less-than-common sample certificate)
NCI (Numismatic Certification Institute, another known company but sample photo certificates are not commonly seen)
UNS (United Numismatology Service, Inc, yeah, I had never heard of them either and have never seen a production certificate)

Thanks Lane. I almost missed this thread. My site is only for samples but nice slabs you picked up!

Thank you all for the history lesson. These 1st gen. slabs don't come up for auction very often, and some of the "younger folk" on the forum (different thread) mistook them for current unknown home slabbers.
