I purchased the first two years so I bought the 07 to keep the set going.

I bought the first two sets. However, I realized I was just overpaying for really cool packaging, and decided to pass this year.

  • The Legacy sets from the previous two years sell for less than issue on ebay.

Curiously, the somewhat similar 1996 Prestige Set, with a higher mintage than the 2005 and 2006 Legacy Sets, is selling at a much higher price.

yes I did. To keep the sets running. I could wait until they sell for less on ebay but I don't.

True, but that was a silver set...You are comparing apples to oranges. As FLB indicated, the 2005 & 2006 can be had at below issue price, in some cases, substantially below issue price on the bay.

No, the silver set was the Premier Set. Same coins as the regular silver set.

The Prestige Set was in a bigger case, and included an Olympic silver dollar and half dollar in addition to the five base-metal proof coins. There were over 50,000 1996 Prestige Sets sold, and the current price for a set is well over $300.

Likely not. The packaging was really dull last year, and the coins I received were mediocre at best. Perhaps they were returns taken from proof sets?

Overall, they seem to be a waste of money.

I stand corrected. Only the $1 commem. was silver. However, the set includes the 50 cent commem key coin (Soccer) & that is why it is demanding a price of $375+ per set

You know, I think there will soon be a backlash to this repackaging of the same coins available elsewhere for less. It is crazy, and should stop as people just get a lot of extra paper and plastic. When people start getting tired of the enormous number of products coming out from the mint, they really won't care is my prediction...

They might not get more than a few thousand shipped by the end of the year. Remember, they have to be SHIPPED by 31Dec or the orders are canceled. I guess the cardboard they come in would command a premium because the coins are nothing special...

No... no interest whatsoever. Cheers, RickO
  • No, takes up too much room for such a small amount of coins.

The Mint was accepting orders for the 2007 Legacy set only through 5 pm today (Dec. 14). The web site is now showing " Product is not available."

If the total number of sets purchased is well below the 50,000 issue limit, this one could be a sleeper.

    My opinion only.

I agree with your assesment..with less than 30,000 sold, this set will be the key date for this set series, which may or may not translate into a build in premium.
