    << <i>Guys and gals,

    With Randy's birthday wishes thread out there, I was thinkin'......

    Why don't we start a little birthday club sorta thing? This way, when it's someone's birthday we all pitch in a couple of dollars (maybe up to $5 each?) and pick something up nice for their set(s) or player of choice.

    For example.....we could start with Randy and everyone (let's assume 15 people pitch in at $5 each which = $75) does their part and we pick something off of eBay (or another seller here on the boards) for his Bowman set.

    Now, we are not just giving each other birthday wishes, but we are actually contributing to the completion of everyone's sets! image

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Looks like we are getting this thing together. I'm compiling the list and I can help in organizing it. I think it's a cool concept and figure that we can help some fellow collectors out there.
    << <i>Another update....
    1. Sixteen "A" votes (GET R' DONE!)
    2. Eleven "A" votes to Five "B" votes
    3. Sixteen "A" votes (GET R' DONE!)
    .....it looks like the AAAs have it.
    For those of you that voted as "B" on question #2, if you absolutely need a breakdown of the payment I can try and work with you. I just want to make it as easy as possible for me. But, you'll end up paying a little more than the $100 because of the PayPal fees.
    By the way, is it okay with everyone if the payments go to me or did you want someone else holding the funds? (Not that I'm not trustworthy, just want to make sure that everyone agrees image )
    We are now going to Phase IV of the Birthday Club process.
    I will be sending PMs to all of the participants this evening to discuss your collecting needs and also to send you the PayPal address to send the payments. Remember, the quicker we get the payments in, the quicker Randy gets his gift and starts this mutha out! image
    For now, I'm off like a prom dress! Gotta go to work. image >>
    << <i>And we are complete once again! image
    With the committment from jamesgotpoorman to be the final piece of the puzzle! I've updated some of the information on the initial post of the thread.
    Also, I wanted to thank Randy (rube26105) for helping me keep guys involved and get all of these payment reminders out. You done good kid! image
    I also wanted to announce that I will have someone that I have to answer to as far as keeping things on the up and up. With Gary scamming the boards previously and a couple of others abusing of our trust out there, I wanted to make sure that everyone could trust me. So, I will have someone watching my purchases and making sure that I'm complying with everyone's purchases appropriately and not pocketing money or anything. Not that I got any flack or even questions about this, but I believe that it is a good idea to put any ideas like this to rest even before things get going. Thanks to stown for that suggestion, by the way!
    Other than that, we've got a couple more payments to receive and we'll be ready to rock n' roll! First purchase will be completed very shortly and hopefully the card will arrive to the initial "Birthday Club" member, Randy!
    Thanks to everyone for trusting me on putting this together and all of the volunteers to help out with searching. I'm going to need the help! image >>
    << <i>Alright guys, I'm back. Was away (I believe I mentioned it before, but if I didn't, I'm sorry about that. image ) for a few days and I returned just less than an hour ago.
    Believe me, I understand that some of you feel 'worried' about things as I would in this situation. I've dropped the ball as it has been noted and I hope that I can make it up to folks. I'm off tomorrow and I'm planning on getting things going again by sending all of the information to my volunteers (have five of them if I recall correctly) and assigning them items to look for.
    The basic premise is if you win something for 'me', then I'll pay via my PayPal. That way, you don't spend your money and we have to get into the reimbursing of PayPal fees, etc.
    By the way, I've sent some presents that have not been posted here. So, of course it 'looks' even worse than what it is (if that's possible image ).
    Talk to you all soon! >>
    << <i>
    << <i>You mentioned there were some PayPal issues on your side. Does this mean they are all resolved?
    Also, some may be concerned (understandably so) that after they win an auction, their feedback is in your hands. Another issue may come from the Seller with two different accounts involved in the transaction.
    Think a little elaboration will ease any lingering fears.
    image >>
    Nope...never an issue with PayPal. I had (and still have) an issue with eBay and my userID being 'suspended' because of some miscommunication.
    So, we should be fine with that piece of it.
    Thanks for all the well wishes and your thoughts....things are getting back in order and I should be back to 'normal' (whatever that is! image ) soon. image >>
    Maybe someone can help me understand this, because it's been in the back of my mind from the beginning. Did it ever really matter if we had 21 folks? If everyone donated the same amount to the pool of birthday money, wouldn't everyone get a gift worth approximately the amount of their deposit.....regardless of the number of participants?
    I think he picked the number 21 so we would all end up with a card close to $100 in value.
    I could care less about the $105. The integrity of this board has taken a far greater hit and that's the real issue here IMO. If someone on this board got stiffed by an ebay seller for $1500 (21-6) and posted this as a new topic, there would be a plethora of comments about "unscrupulous ebay sellers", ebay "scam artists" and the usual "when is ebay going to get serious about cracking down on these crooks?" refrains. If Arny had come forward and told the truth, he would have at least merited consideration for "lending a helping hand". Lurking in the shadows is not the way to gain sympathy or support. Maybe it's time for the Arny "coddling" to stop.
    I knew I remembered a thread about Arny not being around once before, and coincidentally it was also for a few weeks in the month of April in 2007, but he did come back and make things right (granted it wasn't for a lot of money though). Maybe he goes away for the whole month of April as a birthday celebration each year?
    My point is this. If 21 people all put in $105, taking away ebay fees, all 21 people would get a gift around $100. If 3 people all put in $105, taking away ebay fees, all 3 people would get a gift around $100.
    21 x 100 = 2100 2100 / 21 = 100
    3 x 100 = 300 300 / 3 = 100
    gumbyfan.....Obviously you could have 3 people contribute $35 towards 3 gifts but I think it was the low $ towards the max # of gifts that was the rationale behind this club idea.
    But in that scenario then those 3 people would have each only gotten a $35 gift.
    What i think Craig is saying is that there was no emergency to fill 21 spots, as it would work with any number of people. If Gumby and I were the only participants at $105 each, then we'd each put $105 into a fund and then when our birthday came around we'd each get a $105 gift and the fund would be empty. The amount of participants is irrelevant.
    My b'day is not until August so i have not gotten too worked up about this yet. I certainly understand why others have though, ecspecially those whose b'days were months ago. That said however, there is no reason short of death or a major illness/injury why Arny shouldn't be able to take 5 minutes to respond to the concerns expressed by the people that entrusted him with our money.
    I certainly hope nothing serious has happened to Arny, and i'm sure if something has there are a lot of people here that are willing to help, but i think he has lost all our faith by not responding to anyone.
    I actually thought this was a cool idea originally, but now.....
    Hey guys....sorry about the lack of communication.....AGAIN! Sheesh.
    Anything at this point will sound like an excuse, so I'm not going to do anything aside from letting folks know that I recently found out that I lost my job too (my wife lost hers a few weeks ago) so needless to say the ArnyVee household has been a mess lately. image
    For those of you that did not receive a gift and paid me, please send me a refund request and I'll take care of them. Again, I'm sorry that this thing that originally was going to be such a nice thing turned into what it did. If you need to e-mail me directly with any questions, you can send the e-mail to ARNYVEE@AOL.COM
    Thanks guys.
    PS. Can you please remove my address from the post a few spots up. I'd rather not get too much hate mail. Again, sorry guys.
    I think the original idea of this Birthday Club was a fun one and hate to see it end this way. I would like to offer to take over the administration of this project if others would also like it to continue. I think we can get caught up pretty quickly once the club funds are transferred. I have alread found gifts to be purchased and I know that others who had previously offered to help have found cards as well.
    So, what does everyone think? Should we end this here and get refunds, or should we continue this and spread a little more fun?
    Either way works for me and I would certainly not be offended if people would just prefer a refund...so throw in your votes.
    At this point, I think I'd just rather have a refund. One of the two cards on my list is available right now, and I'd like to pull the trigger on it. Of course, with no communication from Arny, we can vote all we'd like and still have no resolution.
    edited to add: I also think the Birthday Club idea was a very good one. I was really looking forward to opening a package in October with something nice in it.
    That is one heckuva gesture Craig and I do commend you for wanting to take this on, but I am tapping out on this one.
    I actually just talked to Arny and he seems to be genuinely upset that this fell apart. I ran the idea past him first and he agreed that it would be a shame to watch this end this way.
    However, I will not argue with your decision as I completely understand. I just wanted to point out that Arny is overwhelmed right now and I can understand how that goes, too. Of course, that doesn't make anything right...but it doesn't help him if we keep piling on.
