I'm getting sick and tired of all the Jefferson Liberty First Spouse 70's!!!!!

GoldbullyGoldbully Posts: 17,781 ✭✭✭✭✭
Am I jealous??? of course.

Does it make sense that PCGS can be so liberal on this modern issue?? No

Did the Mint really make that many "perfect" First Spouse gold coins?? No

Is PCGS playing modern crap catch-up with NGC? image

Will the Mint be able to maintain their perfect record with Dolley??? Probably

Will this post go Poof?

Yet another submission loaded with 70's!!!!!!!

PCGS

What say you????

I was put in my place yesterday when I was told and learned that there is no such thing as a perfect coin! Therefore it doesn't really matter if I look or not.image

a 70 doesn't imply perfection... it only implies that they don't grade any higher.
On the same token... a lot of people pay a premium for that sealed box in hopes of finding the BEST coins.

My grade through rate has been WAY beneath your posted result. However, I am really pleased to see PCGS grading them the way they see them. Why shouldn't they grade 6/7 70's is the coins are truly worthy? Probably the cream coins someone submitted after selling me the open junk. LOL

I'm glad I sold all of my T.J's when I did. PCGS is churning out about 30% .. 70's, both in proof & unc.

  • I sent in mint sealed boxes and look at what I got. I know you can't see the differance between a 69 and a 70 but this 66 didn't book that bad. Give me a break!image

Some submissions are filtered for the best coins. I did in hope of achieving 70's. Whether they are blindly submitted, who knows.

I guess that means the Pr66 is worth more due to rarity. lol

    Thanks,

One thing that never ever gets mentioned on these threads is the fact that these are .9999 fine gold which is much softer than any silver coins so the PR70/MS70 count should be way up there!

Sure, I don't have one but so what.

  • I decided that I will send my 4 in for grading to PCGS next week. Apparently the PR70 First Strikes are the ones that will be in the most demand. Wish me luck!
  • Not with me. I'm upset my ms didn't make 70. The coin is perfect, but the graders must have been blind that day. I have looked three times and spent over an hour examining this coins and cannot find a flaw. They spend 5 seconds and determine it isn't perfect!image

you are right as far as a softer metal, but the prep of the planchet and strike force has all to do with it (i think)

i wanted to see much more hair deatail in Miss LIberty, too

i opened all of mine...and don't care about a slab with this subset for some reason, so maybe i have one and maybe i don't

Me too. Call me stupid but I feel these coins look better left in the OGP.

Some of my MS coins have small hairline scratches at 45 degree angles on the reverse that are only seen if the coin is held at a certain angle. Those are the ones I did not submit.
  • Maybe the Mint is listening to us and producing a better quality product.
  • That submission looks familiar.

I believe someone on the forum belongs to that submissions. He had gotten some people from his office to buy some of the TJ spouse coins and then he submitted them all and I believe he was the only one that received a 69 and the rest got 70's. Just his luck!

    Wow, that's harsh!
    HAPPY COLLECTING!!!
  • those grades that were mentioned ( 6 70's and 1 69) were sent in by a guy at work. He said he convinced his employees to buy them. they all got 2 of each. He said they were mint sealed boxes because sent in after the 19th. He said it was his second submission and he got the 69 on that order. all the 70's were for employees. I said how did you convince them to pay $10 a coin for first strike but got no response. Do you think that PCGS tends to grade higher for new customers? so they keep submitting? His first submission was 8 coins and he got 4 prf70 2ms69 and 2 ms70? shocking hey? LUCKY???? New customer?? roping them in???? Just a conspiracy theorist.

  • Hey guys,

I think I remember hearing a rumor on these Jefferson Gold Coins .. that the Mint was delayed in getting these out (mail delay, or whatever), and therefore not so many 'First Strikes' ......... can anyone confirm that?

Perhaps this makes a good arguement to bring in the 100 point grading scale. image

It's amazing how a 69 grade use to be worth something, now with all the 70's from NGC, ICG and PCGS, a grade of 69 seems to imply the coin is somehow defective and not worth the cost of grading. All these 70's could be the beginging of the end for a lot of submitters.

I'm guessing the opposite. Why buy any coin that isn't slabbed MS70. Demand perfection!!!! RESUBMIT!!!!
