If coin collecting did not exist, would you collect something else?

SanctionIISanctionII Posts: 12,528 ✭✭✭✭✭
For me, I have not found anything I would want to collect other than coins.

Of course I have not devoted much time to looking at other collecting areas since I enjoy coins so much, so I really can not be sure that I would not find a replacement.

The small size of coins makes the logistics of collecting them (storage, transport, etc.) much easier than say vintage automobiles. If I did choose a replacement, I would prefer something that would be small and thus easy to store and transport. I know one thing that my wife would approve of,................ diamondsimage

Of course if I collected diamonds, my hobby efforts would involve hunting for, finding and acquiring diamonds, after which I would simply hand them over to my better half. Where is the fun in that?

I guess I could collect additional girlfriends. The extra cash and time could easily allow me one or two more

My girlfriend didn't think this was a good excuse for me to buy more coins....

    Minerals.

I know many coin collectors who are also into minerals. Luckilly, in Febuary they all decend here in Tucson for the largest rock show in the world! Think ten ANA conventions going on at once in one town!

MY good friend Bill Metropolis, is probably the Q.D.B. of the mineral world and he is now working at Stack's. Merging the mineral world with the coin world.

No, I'd invent coins. Then I'd invent coin collecting.

Finally, I'd invent modern commemoratives and make a fortune! image

Oh, yeah, there are so many things to collect. Most likely fine art, particularly plein air paintings of the 1910-40 period. Also, there are some US space program stuff that would be fun to get too... flown flight patches and the like.

Semi-precious stones. Precious if I could find them, but the fun would be finding them, in the wild so to speak. The hunt, it's always the hunt.

I also collect firearms and marbles.... marbles are quite interesting... and many of high value. Then, of course, there is my knife collection, and chess sets... and books - books - books. Cheers, RickO
