<< <i>very solid win. garnett and pierce need to keep taking the lion's share of the shots until ray-ray gets going. i don't understand why they leave ray in there with like 3 bench players and perkins? he has to score then and he's struggling and he forces more and more shots and i think his shot gets worse. just my thought, can't wait for game 2. >>

There was a 4 minute stretch at the end of the 1st and beginning of the 2nd that they played Brown, Powe, House, Tony Allen and Ray Allen. I mean WTF?! As evidenced by more than accurate breakdowns of what exactly the C's need to do, I could coach this team better than Rivers...and instead they drive me to drink. It's killing me. I still like them in 5. The matchups really favor the C's. Perkins and Rondo will continue to have huge REB and AST #'s - it's almost impossible for them not to with these matchups.

I may need to stop watching them. I've determined that they can't win a championship playing such undisciplined basketball while being coached SOOOO poorly. It's just a question of whether I can keep away from the TV - seeing so many items around my house broken from anger may give me the courage to stay away.
  • baseballfanbaseballfan Posts: 5,458 ✭✭✭
why hasn't powe played lately??? they put davis in instead of powe who i think is a little more seasoned the davis at this point, i'm confused at the coaching at times as well.

Thank GOD!!! I know they looked tired - but playing the starters a LOT was the way to go. I also have to give Doc credit for coaching a great last 2:00. Also, I just have to reiterate that I've said that Perkins was the key to this series about 97 times, including in this thread.
  • Last night was the first game I watched from start to finish. Good game, and I was impressed with Perkins.
  • baseballfanbaseballfan Posts: 5,458 ✭✭✭
why doesn't perkins play like that all the time???? he finally stayed out of foul trouble, i think its just a lack of concentration on his part. but he looked good last night, i hope he canplay like that the rest of the way.

A Celtics-Lakers final looks more and more likely.

Funny thing, I thought that in such a finals, the Lakers would be exhausted after 3 hard fought series in the Western Conference and that the Celtics would be well rested after cruising to easy victories in the Eastern Conference series. Turns out it appears it will be just the opposite. The Lakers have had an easier time and the Celtics have been taken to game 7 twice so far and maybe they will go to game 7 against the Pistons.

I suspect that the league and the media hope that the finals are Celtics v. Lakers. If so, expect a heavy dose of nostalgia (Celtics v Lakers of the 1980's with Magic and Bird) being the theme of the publicity for the series.

Yeah, how about that "offensive foul" on Pierce that should have been a 4 point play? ESPN said is was the worst call in the history of the NBA.

solid game. LA can't stop garnett, if he doesn't shoot 0 for 9 between the 3rd and 4th he has well over 30.

    on to game 2

Not to reverse jinx this at all, but I think Pierce is hurt bad. Anytime you feel something "pop" (which he said he did) it is more than just a strain....ESPN.com's Chris Sheridan said he could barely walk back to his car, and he left the area in his warmups, meaning it was bad enough that he couldn't even change his clothes. I hope I'm wrong, but it just feels like he won't be 100%, or even 80-85% for this series.

I agree, it looks like a very bad injury and wouldn't surprise me if he had an injection for pain, or maybe he was just playing with major pain. Even though I'm a Laker fan, I hope he's not doing anything to jeopardize his health. Either way, I figured the Lakers would get a split at best in Boston. Lakers looked out of it the entire game and you can't do that against one of the top 2 teams in the NBA.

Another solid win, with a scare at the end -- once again, Pierce comes through in the clutch with 2 late free throws.

I love Phil Jackson -- Mr. 9 NBA rings whining about the disparity in foul shots -- why don't you whine about Kobe not driving to the basket!! image

Looks like this is the Celtics to lose, they are 7-0 when leading 2-0 in the NBA championship series. They have history on their side
    but that doesn't guarantee anything.
  • SanctionIISanctionII Posts: 12,122 ✭✭✭✭✭
If the Celtics win out in 4 games, my prediction is that this thred will not make it to 200 posts [unless someone chooses to TTT or some other such thing simply to increase the post count without any substantive comment].

Funny how it has taken this thread an entire season to get to 180+ replies while a thread about the RedSox took far less time to rack up hundreds of replies.

Guess that shows that hoops is way down on the list of popularity compared to baseball (and football).

I think in general there are more baseball fans on these boards than basketball, so that will help explain part of it. Trust me, pro basketball is very big in Boston.

In terms of popularity in Boston, the Sox will always be first (Despite what Dennis and Callahan try to disprove every October, when undoubtedly there is a Red Sox ALDS game on at the same time as the Patriots. They look at the higher TV ratings for the Pats and argue that since a regular season Pats game drew more TV watchers than a playoff Red Sox game that the Pats are more popular. Drives me absolutely bonkers.)
