I watched that game and it was there to win. As you said without Garnett and Ray Allen really not playing all that well ( Except for his clutch three to tie it) before that wild shot a the end they did hang tough. Man I have to admit I was really impressed with Orlando's Dwight Howard he is a monster out there.

i think Dwight Howard will be a MVP very soon, he's unbelievable for his age and he's in the dunk contest this year again. he is fun to watch!! just not against the celtics

Wow, I did not know Dwight was drafted behind Okafor. Okafor is good, but Charlotte should have seen that Howard would be a bigger force.

Edit: Never mind, I forgot Howard was #1 ahead of #2 Okafor. IIRC, Orlando had a VERY lucky ping-pong ball.

Very nice win for the Celts. The bench is playing well, especially Big Baby!
  • baseballfanbaseballfan Posts: 5,458 ✭✭✭
i think ainge did a great job putting together a solid bench and again i think he drafted well. now to add a back up point gaurd, like cassell, to push rondo, who's playing great (11 rebounds-11 dimes yesterday) and for depth. eddie house could be the sharp shooter instead of the back up point gaurd.

i don't like the deal the cavs just made for the C's!!!!

if it goes trough the cavs get west, wally S. and ben wallace for gooden, hughes and other stuff, but they get a solid point guard and shooter (to go with gibson when he gets healthy) and a force inside to go with one of the best players in the east. not good for the celtics, who apparently couldn't afford a back-up point guard or to tweek anything else.

i guess we go with what we have and hope garnett gets fully healthy for the streach run.

The Western Conference of the NBA is loaded up with at least 10 teams that could get 50+ wins in the regular season. Any team from the Eastern Conference that takes a long road trip out West stands a very good chance of getting beat up and ground down. The Celtics have lost two games in a row on a Western Conference trip (Denver and Golden State).

However, the Celtics may find themselves in the NBA Championship series in good health and well rested, playing a Western Conference team that has been put through a meat grinder just to get to the Championship. Stayed tuned for June to find out who wins the title.

I totally agree with you. I have not had a lot to root for this year as a lifelong Knick fan but have had a ton of arguments with my BBall friends saying exactly what you said. The team out of the West is going to be "punch drunk" in the NBA finals this year. Bet on it!

another loss but at least they slowed up the suns from that fast start they had. seems like they started to play some defense.

The two teams in the NBA that are starting to get into a good rhythm as the playoffs approach are the Celtics and the Spurs ( Who are the kings of getting Playoff ready). The Mavs and the Suns are really struggling and the Rockets IMO are peaking way to early and may burn themselves out.I also would have included the Lakers but I have to see what happens when Bynum comes back , Phil is going to have to decide how to insert him back in the lineup without screwing up the nice flow their currently in. Detroit I think will put it on cruise control for the rest of the seasons to rest their Vets and will still win 50+ games. As for the rest of them (Orland,Clevland,Utah,Golden State,Denver your guess is as good as mine.

  • I have to chime in here... I haven't been into the NBA since Bird retired, but I was a huge C's fan throughout Bird's entire career. After he retired, the NBA became unwatchable to me. The bad calls got even more horrendous, and I simply couldn't stomach it any more. Since then, I moved to Portland and admitedly was into the Blazers a bit in the mid 90's... but that didn't really stick.

Noting the Celtics play this year, I actually decided to watch a few of their games. I must say that I have been very impressed by them. I think they're playing more old-school ball, with rock-solid defense. Granted, having the big-3 definately helps on offense but the supporting cast has been impressive to me as well. Granted, I still think that the NBA is by far the most poorly reffed of all major sports, but at least the Celtic's play has got my interest back to a certain degree. I would love to see them play the Lakers in the finals.. a la that great 80's rivalry... and destroy them once again... putting Kobe in his place (as a loserimage!

Yeah, gotta give Doc Rivers some props for melding the rest of the team with the Big 3. And the Celts probably have the best bench in the league now.

Yes, major props on that dunk with 1:40 left in the game of a 20+ point blowout and against our 12 man on the bench.

Can't believe I have not posted in this thread before. I'm so pumped. Little worried about Cleveland in round 2, but pumped nonetheless. How good does Powe look everytime he gets 15 minutes??? Doc needs to play him 15/night. Look at his P.E.R. on ESPN Insider. SHEESH! This guy is a perfect 8th guy. He could start for 4-7 teams in the NBA right now.

houston scores season low 74 points!!!

defense was supposed to be the weak part of this team, their ranked #1 in most if not all defensive catagories. so far 2 for 2 in the texas 3 step it's been a long time since the C's played like this night in and night out.

    onward!!

I'm a little nervous about LeBron, but the way this team plays defense, the Celtics have to be prohibitive favorites right now. Everyone talks about how great the West is (and it is), but the best 2 teams in the league might be in the East.

When the Celtics have 40 more wins this year over last, KG will be the MVP.

Ok, I've been saying this since January. Leon Powe needs 18-20 mins/game - yes, even in the playoffs. According to John Holligner of ESPN.com's player efficiency rating (PER), he is the 27th most efficient player in the NBA. That stat is basically a how much bang you get for your buck number. Every time he's in the game good thing happen with the second unit. He could start for 4-5 teams.
  • SanctionIISanctionII Posts: 12,122 ✭✭✭✭✭
Maybe, just maybe Leon Powe of the Celtics (via Cal Berkeley, via a high school in Oakland, Cal., via a childhood without parents in his life [quite a success story is Leon Powe, hopefully he will not fall back into the environment he came from after his NBA career is over]) can reprise my favorite saying from one of my favorite players (Moses Malone of the 76rs) during the 1983 NBA playoffs:

    "FO, FO, FO"

Malone came close to a playoff sweep in 1983 as the 76rs won the title and lost only one game in the playoffs.

Mayby Leon Powe and the 2008 Celtics can sweep to the title.
