Do you enjoy the hobby more as a result of you participating on the forums?

Collecting for many is a solitary pursuit. In addition to other beneifts, the forums help reduce the solitude. I for one have enjoyed the hobby much more since joining the forums.

How about you?

If I couldn't share my collection and obsession with other like minded people I'd likely not be collecting.

Yes. I have learned a tremendous amount from these forums and I also try to give a little back.

its like going to a coin show every day, not for the actual coin shopping, but for the gossip and info. I get to coin shows only several times a year, so I learn a lot here.

Definately. I have seen some of the nicest coins on earth as a result of this forum. It keeps going and gives me ideas. I love sharing my coins and experiences with others and love to see other forum members coins and experiences. I have learned a heck of a lot, too.

The Forum is great....It's just the people

  • I rejoined the hobby last January, after a 25-year hiatus, and the Forum has been quite helpful in enabling me to quickly catch up with TPG- and pricing-related issues.

Participating in the PCGS coin forum has impacted my collecting more than any other singular event.

    Yes,

I have met a few interesting folks on these boards which have made collecting a little more fun.

As far as the material on the forums, sometimes it is hard to weed out what I need but if a question is asked directly ususully the expertise is there with an answer and sometimes great discussions follow.

The forum adds a great deal to the hobby... it is educational, entertaining and informational (there is a difference between the first and third). Cheers, RickO

I once told Mr Hall had it not been for him and his company, I'd never have come back to coins.
I have to say this forum keeps my drive alive, but the integrity of the hobby was protected by TPG's... Not all, but a few good men in a few companies.

I agree with your initial post, SanctionII

It certainly helps me feel like I'm still actively participating in (and enjoying) the hobby even when I'm not buying coins.

Absolutely. You tend to get out of a hobby what you put into it, and the forum (as well as other similar venues) have allowed me to do exactly that.
  • DDRDDR Posts: 1,621 ✭✭✭✭✭
Yes, absolutely. I've learned a lot from this forum.
  • This forum has definately made collecting more enjoyable for me!I enjoy the threads about coins I don't collect,as it gives me a lot of info about them.
  • Without this forum (Thanks PCGS) I would be regulated to posting in rec.collecting.coins to get my "coin fix" on a daily basis image

In my previous coin collecting go around, in the eighties, i would just stop by Mark's Coin Shop in Los Gatos for a Numismatic News and a few stories then kinda wait for a big show to come around. With this Forum, and the online auctions and websites, the hobby is available anytime at my desk. The Boards raise the oportunity for involvement to a fulfilling level. Went to a coin club meeting ONCE, moons ago....I like this better.

  • This place is great..............I can actually talk to people on these boards ,and
they know what I'm saying ! The things I have learned along the way are invalueable in
my persuit of hoarding as much precious metal as possible . With 3 safes full the wife is getting a little annoyed . She does however find the time and money better spent this way than on a bar stool .
This site has made me realize that I'm not alone when trying to fight this disease . While I collect Jeffersons , and Franklins , I find it hard not to have nice coins of other series . The info such as die markers , and fake markers that are openly shared by the members here make every minute I waste worthwhile !!!

    Thank You All !

The forums here and ATS definitely make coin collecting more fun. Aside from the education I get here, and the Woody I get from looking at some truly RIGHTEOUS coins image, the nicest thing is that I get to meet other people first here and then in person, which is absolutely the best part about it. Meeting and enjoying other people who share the same passions is one of life's great pleasures. It's nice to find other people that don't think FBL stands for Full Blown Lunatic.
  • Definitely. There's a wealth of info here, and lots of folks who share it freely. image
