<< <i>I dont think condition matters as much on a card of this rarity. I dont think I have ever seen one for sale. >>

Your right. Great card in any condition. They seldom surface on eBay.

There was an article about it in USA today years ago..

I think that card was specially made for president bush to give out to his friends and family. Rumor is around 100 were made.

I have seen many cards for sale that were much less than 100 made yet I dont think I have ever seen this one on ebay or the national for 3 years I went in the late 1990's.

I checked the pop report and it says PSA graded 1 ... and it was an 8.

My guess would be that if in fact 100 or so were made and given to President Bush's friends or family.. None of those would ever hit the market. Those people would never need/want to sell the card...

My best guess would be that only the ones that topps employees snuck out would ever hit the marketplace.

    Also , my e-mail is Rogermnj@aol.com

I check my e-mail at work but not these boards.. So if you have some questions you can reach me there.

One of the board members has a Champs 8.5 that he got on ebay a few years ago.

    Unless there's a crease, I agree that it is a solid 6.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

    What does champs 8.5 mean?
  • mudflap02mudflap02 Posts: 2,060 ✭✭
Champs 8.5 = graded as such by the off-brand grading company "Champs." The only reasons I can think of that it is inside that holder are that it was either graded at the beginning of the grading era, or that at the time, PSA refused to slab it.

    Hey guys,
Just wanted to mention, if you asked about something in PM and I didnt get back to you, Its because I didnt have the information I needed to answer you.
I got about 200 pms in the last two days and I think I got back to 95% of you.
Thanks again for all your insight and the help I received in identifying some of the items.

I stand by my original assessment that everything in the collection is worthless and should be thrown away.

collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.

looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started

PSA wasn't grading them at the time. I'll have to send Joe O. an email and see if they're doing it now. Just because one appears in the POP report doesn't mean they'll grade it today.

Edited to add that two of them have come up for sale on eBay (that I'm aware of) in the last seven years. The one shown above and the one purchased by a noted celebrity/card collector a few years back.

2 in 7 years is still pretty rare image

I am not sure how to resize bob's scan, but when you zoom in it does not have all of the white spots all over the photo. Since these two are defferent do you think that means that more than one sheet was produced and mean there are a lot more than 100 out there? Or is this just a scanner/scan quality issue?

I think it's the descreening feature on the scanner, some have it and some don't. If I scan large without using descreening I get those spots.

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

    Stown,

Did you really have two of these, and if so, do you recall where you got them originally? I think I remember seeing one for sale at show way back when for $200 or so...

I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!
Don't waste your time and fees listing on ebay before getting in touch me by PM or at gregmo32@aol.com !

    Seriously, true story.

I believe both (I know at least one) came from my uncle.

They are either in one of the many 3,200 count boxes sitting in a warehouse or some hospital from a donation.
