I thought this was pretty cool.. Its just a baseball card magazine from 1983 but the address label is topps and sy berger so i thought it might have some value...
Wow, it's like a trip back in time. Thanks for scanning these! Too bad that '71 vending box was searched, though!
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
Tho not worth much the Trader Speaks mailed to Sy Berger is way too cool - historically speaking.
Hall Nostalgia used to take out full page ads every week in SCD and held regular auctions of all kinds of cool stuff.
The Trader Speaks is one of the first hobby monthly's that was put out by Dan Dischley of Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Long Island. He got input from some of the icons like Frank Nagy, Jefferson Burdick, Charles Bray, Woody Gelman - just to name a few!
Great item!
On the value of this stuff? It's NOT mainstream cards - some of these items may brings in the high hundreds to thousands - depending on who's on the sheet and the condition?
<< <i>Has anyone ever heard of those 1962 sheets with the maris and koufax for sale? >>
I've heard and seen promo sheets of course but have no idea on the various values, but I haven't ever seen that one. I have no idea what that might fetch at auction - the condition seems very nice. Is there printing as well on the back or is the back blank? Is the paper baseball card cardstock or another type of cardstock?
I'll wait for an answer but just a rough guess based on nothing, that sheet with of course some very, VERY popular players on it has gotta go for $5K and possibly more, perhaps a lot more?
Is that the famous 1963 "Traded" version of the Rose Rookie, LOL?? Very cool indeed!
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
That's a cool office memo - doesn't really tell why Berger had him look at the two cards?
They're the 1977-79 Sportscaster cards and featured all kinds of sports besides baseball - the card's are not worth much but the combo with the note and stuff is very cool and shows some of the inner workings at Topps.
The DiMaggio card looks like it's from the Sportscaster series from the late 70's.
As for values on the items, some of them are going to be very hard to price due to their nature (that 63 Rookies banquet book, for example unless it's a much more common item than I think. If you are going to help move the items for the lady, I would suggest contact Robert Edward Auctions, and have them take a look at it. I'm sure you'll be PM'd by the guys at Memory Lane, Mastro, and contacted by some of the 3rd and 4th tier auction companies as well, but of all the companies out there, I'd think that REA would produce the best results for you.
Best of luck with them, and keep the pics comming!
As far as some modern stuff goes... As i am going through it i have the following available...
All sets are factory sealed.
1989 bowman tiffany set 1991 Topps tiffany set 1991 topps tiffany traded x2 1989 topps traded tiffany set
1998 topps set x2 1999 topps set 2000 topps setx2 2002 topps set 2003 topps set
1981 topps vending baseball box - looks pretty nice. Not handled too much but I grabbed a stack of 50 cards and there were really no stars so it might have had a few cards pulled - prob avg's out to NM-MT+
About 20 1985 Topps baseball Rack packs About 5-6 1984 topps football grocery racks.
Ok guys, this is the stuff I am going to need the most help with. I have a folder with about 100 pieces.. some are black and white, some are drawn by hand with notes some are oversized.
All i know is I have a lot of homework to do on some of this stuff..
By the way guys, bad news on the 71 vending box.. Just went through it, first of all, half of it is 1970 and half is 1971. The only star card in the whole box is a Munson rookie and it is beat up bad. The 70s look like they have been handled everyday since 1970 and the 71s look to be mostly 6s..with lots of duplicates.(5 of some cards!) Either way, if you are interested, shoot me an offer on the box) I can post some scans for you to judge condition if you wish.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
Ok guys here is an interesting item that I have never seen before. 1984 Nestle sealed cello packs. Looks like 3cards per pack.. I know PSA doesnt grade these anymore but the #'s of the cards in the pop report of the ones they previously graded dont match up with the ones i have. For example, #8 is mattingly in the pop report but in my stack I have #8 showing through the back and its Lance Parrish. I took a scan of 4 packs. 1 is the front of the pack, the other 3 are different backs..
The 3 card panels are advertising strips given to store owners to promote the new product coming out. There is usually about 3 different ones for each year. They are pretty rare because most were discarded by store owners. The should fetch some nice coin.I would defiantly contact REA about selling them.Depending on the rarity you may be able to have them sell commision free.Good luck and nice find.

Just want to give a big thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread so far.
Ok, next item.. My best guess is that they were designing a promotion for the new star wars cards and this was the original. It has some signs of glue use and you see lots of marker markings and color ins.

On this one, you're confusing the regular Nestle set which is exactly like the 84T set except for the Nestle on the top right of the card and the DREAM TEAM set which has a total of 22 players.
The regular set has almost 800 cards - thus the different numbering.

Amy pricing ideas on anything so far...ballparks...
As I said - the 62 Auravision was a "test" issue - which was made for the Milk Dud Candy company - in 1964, they did a mail-in promotion.
If memory serves, in the early 90s, there was a 'warehouse' find of a mess of these - which drove down the values of the complete sets.
Another great item.

Plus it adds a little flair to this thread
Do you have any of the promo's/sell sheets from the early 70's
Current obsession, all things Topps 1969 - 1972
Bosox1976
When I was in Vietnam - we would take a pic like that and draw grid boxes all over the body - and number them to 365.
Then, each day we would blacken one of the boxes - obviously when we couldn't see her anymore...
It was time to go home!
Anyone know what this is?

Not like that one Roger with the words Promo on it.
That is regular cardboard stock - correct?
It should bring some righteous money if there's no creases?

That is just too cool.
If you see something you like, lets make a deal.. (On the mainstream stuff... the one of a kind stuff i will have to do some more research)
I have a 1000ct box of 77 star wars and the cards are really really clean.
<< <i>Also i have some 60s topps rookie book about 12 pages that includes a page on Rose with a picture of a card never made..
Anyone know what this is?
Roger
Ever since 1959, Topps has been making up an All-Rookie team and the next year they put the "award cup" on their card.
I didn't realize there was a pamplet made? It says Waldorf on it - so I'm guessing they had a banquet in their honor?
They still do this today.
I've seen the announcements in SCD.

Tho Topps did a mountain of non-sport stuff over the years, I wasn't aware that they did nude stuff?
Interesting - but I'm clueless.

Just went through ONE of the 80-81 vending basketball boxes...
