eBay Etiquette Question

Well, after 300+ transactions on eBay, I'm finally having a problem with a buyer. I sold one of my 2006 ASE sets on eBay earlier this month. They buyer, who had a feedback of 5, sent a checkout notice a couple of days after the auction ended that they would be paying by money order. A little over a week passed, and I contacted the buyer to ask if they had mailed payment yet. They replied, saying they did. I told them that I would check the mail on Saturday, and let them know if it wasn't there (this was Saturday before last). I emailed them as promised when the m.o. wasn't there and got no response. I emailed them again on Tuesday, suggesting they cancel the m.o. and send it again. It's Thursday now, and still haven't gotten any response. The question is: how much time should I give them to respond? They didn't repond to the one from last week, and the current one has gone 2 days with no response. I don't want to neg them unless I'm absolutely sure they have no intent of paying, but I also need the money soon...

One thing I did this morning was check the user's bidding history. Turns out that my bidder has several dozen auction wins over the last month, including multiple wins for gold bullion coins. Yet he only has the two positive feedbacks from sellers, and one of them looks like it was left before the payment was even received. I wrote a couple of other sellers who had sold this guy multiple lots to see if they've received payment, depending on their answer I may file a NPB report today, otherwise I'm going to give the bidder until Friday (that's 10 days post auction) to at least reply to my last inquiry.
If you've already waited two weeks, I don't think it's too early to file the NPB on him. If you think you could just have a "clueless newbie" on your hands, it wouldn't hurt to do a little sleuthing as I described above first. Good luck however it turns out.

<< <i>You have a deadbeat. File the NPB, relist, and move on.

Absolutely...I've got a similar case...nothing but broken promises, even after I reported an unpaid item to eBay, another broken promise.
Ebay proudly proclaims that they refuse to investigate 'Retaliatory Negative' and it, along with the privet auction, are the two most utilized tools of the EBay scammers.
My girlfriend sold a RAM chip a month back, the 'hidden feedback' winner kept telling her
<< <i>"Paypal notified me that they are waiting for you to send the shipping receipt, then they'll release the money, please forward me your shipping receipt!" >>
Yeah, right... there was no 'pending transaction' in her Paypal account, the winning bidder threatened her with negative feedback for not shipping the item but... a week or so later, the winning bidder was no longer an EBay member. Ebay still charged her for the transaction though... she since gave the RAM to a friend EBay told her to relist it... just try fighting that one!

You could have pulled their info and tried a phone call. There are many reasons why their e mail could have gone down.

<< <i>funny, I get no responses from him for over a week and all of a sudden, since I negged him, he responds right away? >>
That's the usual pattern with deadbeats. BTW, in the future go through the NPB process first and close it before posting the neg. If they fail to respond before it's closed and decide to post a retaliatory neg, it won't count in your ratings.

I have a buyer with a feedback of 1 (!) who hasn't send me payment since June and who clearly has walked away from the deal. I'm not going to neg her. I want the funds not the opportunity to neg her. She's brand new for crying out loud!? What do you gain by neg-ing the buyer?
Relist the item and move on.
