What will happen if the U.S.Mint just...??

Stopped production of all those unnesasary coins and went back to minting PR and Mint sets only.Would the market exlode...?!?!?!
Would we see any change in collector attitude ??How would we react. ??
We complain with all the stuff the Mint puts out now ...but what will happen if it would come to a finale'....image

It wouldn't affect me at all. In fact, I think that would be a pretty good idea. Of course, the letters to the editor columns would likely shrivel up and die for lack of subject matter. Come to think of it, that would be pretty good, too. image

There would be massive hoards of circulating coins. Then, we would be forced to round all of our purchases up to the nearest dollar if paying with cash. Debit Transactions would bog down computers and crash servers all over the world. Then riots would take place because people wouldn't be able to purchase any necessities and total chaos would insue.

In other words, it wouldn't be so good. Really think about it.

PR and Mint sets aren't necessary either. What if they went back to just producing coins to facilitate commerce without special packaging or finishing for collectors?

The millions of circulation SHQ collectors will not have a problem if you mean NCLT by unnecessary.

Ultra-modern NCLT prices might go up and there might be more collectors for these discontinued "series."

Classic coin prices might go down if flippers that buy classics with their profits no longer have those profits.

image Do not think they will. Like to see more issues, if quality, timely delivery, "low" prices are there. People don"t have to buy all that comes out, just buy what"s attractive to them. More choices available the better image
  • Not as many new collectors would be drawn to the hobby. The hobby would become stale and the participants older with every passing year. Resale value of classic coins would stagnate. Eventually, with older collectors dying off and not much new blood coming in, prices would fall, and coin collecting would be looked at as a boring pastime for old coots.

I would not mind in the slightest if the Mint stopped producing proofs, mint sets, and NCLT and only minted coins for circulation.
