main stream press ignoring run up in gold

so far, the main stream media have ignored the run up in gold. this is a very good thing. because, as we know, as soon as the "golden bull" shows up on the cover of Time magazine, or Barrons, or makes the network news -- the bull run will be over. the mainstream media always catches on too late.

also, Ive been reading various internet finance sites and while they follow crude oil and dollar/euro stories heavily, gold rarely gets a mention.

this tells me that the rise in the metals has more room to the upside.

Stockbrokers, banks, investment funds, IPOs, don't make any money if you buy gold. And the government
can't steal your wealth through inflation. Thus they ignore it or badmouth it (Gold isn't an investment, gold doesn't
pay interest, gold is a barbaric relic of the past)

The only thing that the government can do is confiscate it. Does anyone have any idea how much gold the government actually did confiscate in 1933? I've never really heard any accounts, personal or even secondhand how many people actually turned in their gold when FDR issued his executive order. Were people just "outa luck" when FDR issued his edict? Was there any kind of protest, and did the government compensate anyone for their gold?

If the currency gets trashed, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that the government, especially in the hands of hillary c. wouldn't be sorely tempted to start issuing executive orders similar to FDR's, especially if the economy is in a serious tailspin. I hope none of that happens, but....................

What would people who own gold do? If the housing market crashed, and the dollar went way down, and gold was the only asset left that was worth anything - how many folks would hand over their only asset that still had any value at all? Even facing fines and imprisonment? I can't believe that I'm asking this question, but it's got to be considered.

    whaddya think?

Main stream news does not concern itself with any business news that would be of serious concern to everyone..But if you want to know how many time OJ farted in jail, they got you covered.

  • Shhhh! You don't want to alert anyone their savings accounts in dollars are in a death spiral with no long-term solution from stopping it from getting progressively worse.

For those who have not yet learned that the media (for the most part) has sacrificed all ethics and semblance to what real journalism once meant, pay attention. Headlines are mainly about low intellect Hollywood idiots performing the stupid stunt of the day, scandals involving anyone - however meaningless, sex - whenever possible, and lying about whatever political party represents the opposition to their agenda.
So, to imagine that they would attempt to publish anything really meaningful about the economy (no blood, sex or idol images) is incredibly naive. After all - who would read it? (or so goes their reasoning). The media has generally become what the National Enquirer was for years, lies and sensationalism. Very sad indeed to see what was once a great profession and a strength of this great nation, degenerate into nothing more than sewer sludge. Cheers, RickO

ditto, ditto, ditto . . . nicely said

cant back it up, but I heard on a gold forum that only 1/3 of the people owning gold back in 1933 turned it in to the government - how about gold coins?? - would they treated the same as bullion?? - interesting how Uncle Sam would enforce turning in the yellow stuff in this day and age??

At least we all knew what the National Enquirer was from the get-go. The "mainstream media" transition was insidious.

Each person could own 5 but collects coins were exempt. Keep in mind a lot of the stuff wasn't melted but transfered to worn torn Europe for repairations.

The thing is we were right in the middle of a major depression so you didn't have to worry about most americans owning any gold coins.
  • Gold is competition for all things fiat, that's why.
  • If someone from the US Mint had an affair, lied about sex, or sold a coin to Britney Spears ... now that would be news! They'd report on that!
