How often, if ever, do you spread your collection out and view it in its entirety?

If you have done this, does the size and scope of the collection surprise you when you see it all at once?

I have never done this with my entire collection, however I have placed multiple cameo proof half dollars in whitman snap lock holders on my kitchen table at night and turned on the recessed lighting above the table. Quite a dramatic effect. Sort of like lots of cars pointed at you at night with their high beams on.

my collection fits in a SDB with ease, so yes.

If I recall correctly, Fatman posted a picture of his collection spread out on a table. There were mountains upon mountains of gold and silver rarities. It looked pretty impressive (hopefully I am not confusing his collection with someone else's).

I used to be somebody, now I'm just a coin collector.

Once a year. It's always like meeting old friends.

Of course the rolls stay in the ammo boxes and the Proof sets are just inventory know. But the type set gets to be viewed.

    ROFL.

A few of my collections are massive.

If ya' spread 'em out you'd hafta stand too far away to see 'em.

Many are in different safety deposit boxes.

On occasion... with no particular regularity... but it is amusing now and then. Cheers, RickO

I haven't done it since I was maybe 11 years old. I do spread out portions of my collection form time to time.

Never. Every so often I'll take out a set or two from the safety deposit box and bring them home to enjoy. Soon thereafter, it's back to the bank. I doubt I've seen the collection "spread out on a table" in 20+ years.

I do this atleast once a year, but usually I end up doing it quarterly to see where I am and what direction I want to focus on next.

It's fun to see all the coins you've amassed over the years image

At least 2-3 tines a year -- but what I have can fit comfortably in a 24-bottle beer box, which is in fact where I keep it!

It's easy when face value of collection is less than a quarter and the pennies just sit in a drawer - just take them out and take a quick picture like this...

Once in recent memory. Upon moving, I shipped it to a relative's house. I arranged all my slabs on the dining room table by denomination and date. Quite a sight, several hundred coins from the 1790s to the 2000s.

My collection is smaller....maybe 50 coins...but nearly all are key or semi-key dates that I love to look at from time to time. They all reside in a SDB, so whenever I add something or sell something I'm able to visit old friends. Even with a collection of my size I occasionally forget what coins I own. My recent memory of this is stumbling across my 1864 SM 2 Cent PCGS AU50. I was like, "Oh yeah..." And I'm only 27 so my memory can't be fading already....can it? image

I would love to have my collection out to view. But that would take forever and even longer to put back away. I have a few curio cabinets that I like to display my cards and coins, paper money. Thats good enough.

Mountains and Mountains of rarities is a bit of a stretchimage. But yep, once a year I gather the collection from the safe deposit boxes and play with my coinsimage. I take inventory and I decide what stays and what goes. Here is the 2007 version of FatMan at Play.image

Fatman, what are the large coins near the center of the table that are in AirTite holders?

    Nope.

Every now and then I'll take a set out of the safe deposit box, like proof Frankies or MS Frankies including the doubles (triples etc.).
  • SanctionIISanctionII Posts: 12,591 ✭✭✭✭✭
After seeing the coins on Fatman's pool talbe, I may just have to try to completely cover the kitchen table with cameo proof and SMS singles and sets just to see what it is like. Heck toss in everything else too... just for the fun of it.

If I did, it would have to be when my wife and kids are not around. If they saw it, I would not hear the end of itimage

I did it in February 2006, right before I went to Macau for 6 months. May be doing it again soon cause they want me to go back for 3 to 5 years now!
