UPDATE! So....will I get them from the Mint or not?

I am more than upset with the US Mint. image

Here is the scenario

1. Someone steals credit card number
2. CC company calls to advise me of this problem.
3. They get less than $1000 worth of stuff before I am able to stop them by closing my account and starting over. So not too bad, so far.
4. As part of the process of changing my cc number I have updated with the new number on the Mint's website.
5. Today I go to the site and my order is on hold so I call the customer service number.
6. I am told that my credit card did not go through. Alarmed that something else was going on with the new card I ask what credit card they are trying to charge. They are trying to charge the original number...the one that I had already removed from their site!!!!! Unbelievable!! They then proceed to tell me that I should have called back in to make this change....but to no one's surprise, even the representatives, this is not mentioned on their website.
7. Further I am told that my order will be cancelled and that there is nothing to be done.
8. So after calling back several times and being hung up on twice (6 toal calls) am greeted by another person who wants to verify ALL of my information for yet a 6th time...!!
9. Again I am told that they are sold out but that she is oging to place me on a waiting list and that I now have a 50/50 chance of getting them.

My question is that why am I am being made to pay or a configuration issue. And if you need to call first then why or why was there no notification on their website stating just that.

Am I asking for too much? And the part that really bothers me most is that I have no other resourse. I can always refuse to buy from them and boycot them, but we all know that does no good since they are not acccountable to anyone but themslves. ARGH!!!!

  • I've read I think 2 other posts on this board from people that had this same exact thing happen. If you mess with your card info while your order is on hold, bad things happen. It sucks that it happened to you, but I'm not sure if the policy is so terrible over all.

I had a order that was place on hold for this very same reason awhile back. You're jumping through too many hoops. Simple call them and say you wish to change a credit card on an existing order. Give them the order number and the card info and you're finished.

My CC company bought another one a year or so ago and has just gotten around to issuing new cards AND new account numbers. When I had confirmation that my Jeff FS would ship, I called to get the number updated....I was told I could ONLY do this online with my account.

Should be interesting to see what happens on my next order if they are saying that you should have called back in (when they told me the phone reps can't assist in this).....

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

On an existing order the Mint used the card that was on file at the time the order was placed. Changing the card on the site will only effect future orders.

yep...that is what I thought. I just am so frustrated I could spit. If the cc number change is only for future purchases they need to tell us, the consumer....oh well. I guess I get to pay double if I want one now. Thanks everyone.

    Here's the skinney!

    And Everybody take NOTE!

When you place your order, whatever credit card specifics you have on file with the US Mint gets tacked to the order. When it comes time to fill the order, whether or not you have changed and/or updated your credit card number on THEIR site FOR YOUR ACCOUNT, they always process whatever card was tacked onto the order. They never ever attempt to process the card you currently have on file!

To me, this is rediculously stupid and its how I missed out on the initial delivery of the SAE 20th Anniversary Sets! I did just like You, I knew my card was set to expire so I updated it on the Mints Web Site in September thinking full well that the update would affect items already on order.

    NOT!!

I was angry then and am just as angry now but at least I understand how these folks operate to avoid future frustrations!

So.............here's the note you should take!

IF YOU UPDATE YOUR CREDIT CARD ON THE MINTS WEBSITE FOR WHATEVER REASON, CONTACT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND HAVE THEM PHYSICALLY UPDATE EACH AND EVERY ORDER YOU HAVE INCLUDING ANY SUBSCRIPTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE!!!

To answer your original question: Unless you get incredibly lucky, you will not receive your order. Its just that simple!

What you should have done, and everybody take note of this as well, regardless of what the Customer Service Rep tells you, ask to speak to a manager and have them reprocess your order with the current card number.

DO NOT EVER ALLOW THEM TO CANCEL YOUR ORDER OR CANCEL THE ORDER YOURSELF! If you do, you will be SOL!

These folks have moved into the 21st Century but they still have one foot back in the 80's and that is what you have to deal with!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

So...I just found out that I received my Proof and UNC TJ First Spouse Gold today! imageimage

I have not been home to look at them but I know they are waiting for me. Hopefully they are not someone's rejects? image

  • One more thing to add to 19Lyds post (which is very good info)....

The Mint will correct the CC information but if multiple items are going to be shipped, you will still have a problem. Example: FS Washington and Adams order placed (5 of each coin 20 total which was the limit). CC expires between order and ship, so order goes on HOLD. Call Mint and provide new expiration date. Mint ships 5 Washinton Proof coins, others still on backorder. Check order near expected ship date, reamining items CANCELLED. Why? Because they used the OLD information when they tried to process the backorders!

Reps can't do anything about it, it is the way the system works.

Moral of the story....watch your order until you receive the entire order!
I'd keep playing. I don't think the heavy stuff will be coming down for quite a while!
