Dolly Madison Gold or 10th Anniversary Platinum Set?

What will you do?

This "Set" could be introduced about the time Dolly is for sale.

The hat trick will be when the mint introduces buffalo fractionals in November.

Platinum for me, will order the 1 oz W coin later this week. I haven't been expecting the Dolley or the first two coins in 2008, Monroe & Quincy Adams to do much in the after market.

Both but just one of each. Though there is not a huge collector base for the plats like the 20th Anniversary Gold like last year so don't expect double the mint price in the aftermarket. You may want to keep this in mind. JMHO.

Seems the 2006 W's did just fine, they've come down some now but they are still almost double of issue price.

Tough call to make...with Platinum at $1,335+ per oz ... you can get 3 First Spouse coins for the price of one plat.image

If the Plats have an appropriately small mintage,

then the Plats are the way to go.

If it's 10,000 sets, then it's a no go and I'll just get one of the W-uncs and continue with my own set.

    ...half ounce to be specific.

  • My favorites are the 1/2 oz plats as well, primarily due to their lower mintages. I would love to see the (still mythical) anniversary sets limited to 4,000-6,000 pieces, but have a feeling that we will see mintages more like 10,000.

I'll probably pick one up either way.

Just gotta have that PLAT! Now, if they'd slip Dolly into something a little more modern...

  • Speaking of reverse proof.....save for the face of liberty, the non w ms plats look pretty reverse proofy already.

  • Anniversary Plats....

I thinks the mint has killed the goose that lays the golden eggs....

If 10,000 is the number, as rumored, I'll buy a few for pre-sell flips only....

And I've never sold pre-sale before, but that will be the only angle on this at 10,000 mintage....

If however, the mint were to put a limit of 2500 and 1 per household, they could keep the marketing going....

It IS in the best interest of the mint to have original purchasers do well in the after market....

  • The Dolly Madison reverse is the best of the first four spouses. It is both appealing and historically significant. It will also be a quick sellout, though given the current Mint trend to reduce household order limits, not a quick flip. The 10th anniversary platinum set will be a quick sellout and given the Reverse Proof type it includes, a sure short-term significant gain should definetly be seen.

there is not a huge collector base for the plats like the 20th Anniversary Gold

    Not huge but apparently growing.

The 2006 W Uncirculated plats are becoming less numerous on eBay.
