How Would You Handle This Feedback? - First Anaconda Neutral.

Well, after 8 years on eBay, it was bound to happen. Now before folks start cracking open the beer to celebrate a dealer here on the boards getting dinged on eBay, I'd like to ask you how would you handle this feedback?

A little upset with coin being loose and crooked in NGC slab 1835 25c NGC XF40 Toned Capped Bust Quarter (#120161700922)

The buyer paid via check and I sent it off the day the check was recieved and it arrived on the 19th at his/her place. I didn't recieve any communication from the buyer until they left the neutral feedback. I would have easily got it reholdered on my dime if they would have only asked.

How would you handle this? Would you leave a negative, neutral, or positive? What would you say?

I have an idea of what I want to do but just thought it would be interesting to see how those here would handle it?

I would ignore it and move on. In fact, I've ignored worse.

That's one that I would not worry about one bit. I might let the good folks at NGC know about it, however.
  • Take the high road and let it go. The sad part with Ebay feedback is that a Neutral is really a Negative light. It shouldn't be that way, it should mean what it is, a Neutral.

Not much you can do other than move on. I sold a used pair of Boy Scout shorts once for $8 and the guy left me a Neg. I emailed him and he said they had a small hole in the pocket that I failed to disclose. I told him if he had just told me, I would have just given them to him.

You could leave him a Neutral and state your case.
I used to be somebody, now I'm just a coin collector.

  • It does not affect your 100% so that is not a problem, but as much as I would love to "Neg" the idiot (can I say idiot on the boards) for not contacting you. Especially since I know how much control we all have over the orientation of the coin in a TPS. I would just respond back with a Neutral and say something to the effect, "Would have paid to have it reholdered if the buyer would have contacted"
  • If it were me (anything other than a positive bug me - I want 100% of my customers to be happy) - I would write the buyer and ask them if there is anything you can do to make them happy, including letting you send them a mailer to return the slab for a full refund...let them know that it bothers you that they're not satisfied with their purchase - ask them what you can do to make it better where they would feel comfortable withdrawing their neutral mark...if they offer to withdraw - send them a mutual withdraw request...

Definitely don't retaliate with your feedback, if they sent you a check promptly and it cleared, they met their obligation as the buyer.

    Hope that helps! Good luck...

  • I too have managed to sell on Ebay since '99 with 100% positive, and I'm sure my time will come as well. This is another example of why the seller cannot leave feedback first. It leaves you at the mercy of a buyer who takes feedback lightly, or uses it to communicate dissatisfaction instead of sending an email. I'd leave a neutral as well, since I'm assuming he paid promptly, but lacks common sense and courtesy in his dealings with the seller.

Leave a positive and move on. Any negative would be sour grapes on your part. You aren't buying his feedback with your feedback, you are earning his feedback with a good sale. He wasn't happy, anyone that looks will roll their eyes. What will your excuse be for bad feedback - Tit for Tat?

I really do not believe that this one 'neutral' feedback, when contrasted with your 870 positive feedback comments, will cause you any problems. I would also like to believe that any prospective buyers, when looking at your feedback history, would read that one ridiculous neutral feedback and put it in proper perspective. What I do not understand is why any buyer would respond with a feedback comment before presenting their grievance to the seller. How can the seller respond, or make things right for the customer, if the buyer does not communicate with him? People bemoan the lack of customer service in the marketplace today, but you must first relate your problem to the seller and allow him to respond. It is entirely unfair to cut him off at the knees before you allow him to correct the problem.

Take the advice of the others here, and move on. I would also agree that you should not retaliate with a negative or neutral feedback.

That happened to me once. I had an ANACS holdered coin that was cracked during transit. I offered to get the coin re-holdered at my cost. the buyer said no it was ok. Two days later the idiot left me a neutral. I left no feedback at all and just moved on......I suggest you do the same. Be the better man that I know you are and take the high road.

  • If he came through allright on his end of the bargain - leave a positive. I think his feedback pretty much dismisses any chance of his neutral being taken seriously. It's silly.
  • For your repentance you could sell me this coin for half price!

Just kidding, don't worry about the Neutral, it just shows how childist the buyer is.image

    poorguy:

Heck I have given MYSELF a negative feedback so I do not take these things seriously.

But a neutral feedback would be appropriate with instructions in the feedback on how to contact NGC for crooked holders.

  • The nice part of thread is, we now know that we can offer 15% back of your buy-it-now price and still pick up the coin.image
  • I took the liberty of calling him up to reconcile the situation. He admitted to me that he felt kinda bad about leaving that feedback so abruptly but was just peeved that it was crooked in the slab and left it in an impulse. I told him that I wanted to make sure that he was completely happy with the coin and that I would take it back or have it reholdered for him on my dime. He was amiable to this and thanked me for taking the extra step in calling him about it and that he'll withdraw the feedback left.

Keep in mind (and I feel that I have to clarify due to the number of posts about negative feedback) that I never intended to leave a negative.

Hey if he wants to return it let me know.

I did not know you had a less than $500 section on the website.

Sweet coin, and I could actually afford that one. I will have to go snooping past all of the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ coins to try and find one like that.

Or was that coin never on the website?

Hey Brandon, I only wish I would have checked out that auction before the buyer did. I would have been all over that awsome coin, and I don't care if it was put in the slab sideways and upside down, it's a gorgeous coin. Neg him!imageimage

What’s so dang bad about a neutral feedback? This is no big deal in my book.

I’d leave him positive feedback, and move on. Done deal!

That said, I do think it was a very classy move to offer to have it re-holdered on your dime. That speaks volumes about you Brandon, as well as Anaconda RC in general.

Perhaps if you started it would warn other sellers of bad buyers.

Maybe this guy has been just as impatient with many other sellers but no one warned others about it by leaving the deserved feedback?

Time to start using feedback properly.
  • Ignore it. I've got a 6000 feedback with 3 neg.
One was when guy bought same item from me and another seller. Mine was new in original box. Other was listed as used.
He neg'd us both for rust on multiple items. It clearly didn't apply to my item and feedback was obviously a mistake but he would never even reply to numerous very, very nice messages. Item was $4. He had a total of 12 feedback with 2 negatives.

Other two instances were where bidders simply didn't read descriptions. All negs left without any attempt to contact me me first. I would have gladly made things right.

Total selling price of all 3 items that resulted in a neg........$34

This after $150,000 in sales. Go figure.................
  • I just got off the phone with him again and he wasn't very happy. It seems that he is getting a plethora of not nice messages from eBay members about the feedback. He then decided to not mess with it and is just returning the coin for a refund. Speaking with him on the phone, he doesn't seem like a bad guy but just left it out of an impulse. While I appreciate the support, please, nobody go overboard with this. He is working on getting the feedback removed so all is well.

On every occurance where negative feedback was the most logical outcome I've contacted the buyer and worked it out over the phone and it's usually because of a misunderstanding. By the end of the conversation, we'd both be happy with the results and most have become regular clients still today.

The mob mentality of the Forum is unfortunate. All the guy did was leave a neutral, which is certainly his right, and he gets emails from forum members. Not right fellas.

Well that sucks, but maybe you can bump the price of the coin a bit next time to make up for the few bucks lost in fees, hassles, etc.

    Lessons learned:

Buyers: Don't leave a neutral over something so petty when simply contacting the seller could most likely resolve the issue.

Sellers: Don't post the situation on a coin board and be surprised when the torches and pitchforks come out. image

  • << Once again, another example of why a seller should never leave feedback first. >>

Not to derail this thread, but I agree. I think I'm missing maybe one or two feedbacks out of well over 300 because I didn't leave it first. Big whoop.
