  • Now that you aren't playing the Tigers anymore why not make it 14 out of 16?

"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."
  • I wonder why seated coin, who says he hates me so much, idolizes me in his signature...interesting that he wants to spread my name everywhere he posts.

  • Do we hear 15 out of 17?

  • A triple digit payroll and a 2-14 run that will cost them the playoffs is a gigantic disgrace and an embarrassment to baseball. Everyone here knows that a high payroll guarantees a playoff spot, right? There should be some sort of penalty imposed for such an overbloated waste of payroll.

  • Hilarious, better records than both the White Sox and Dodgers, despite them having bigger payrolls.

Houston is 14th in the bigs, with a near $88 million salary, with a .434 winning percentage! bwahaha what a waste!
How about a $100 million for Carlos Lee for the team to contend for the worst record in the NL?

    hhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
  • Ax, it's no use picking on other misfortunate teams. Your Marinateds have been the worst waste of money in a long time. $107 million for a 2-14 run nearly in mid September!! They should sell the franchise or move the team!!
  • Maybe they can go for the longest losing streak at the end of the season for a once Wild Card contender. I wonder if someone keeps track of such a record.

If someone had told me in April the M's would be competitive into September and we'd have Ichiro locked up long term, I'd have smiled at that. The M's had a great run but their lack of pitching which was hidden by a great lineup was just overwhelmed.

Everyone and their sister picked the M's to finish dead last, to have no competitive shot. While the playoffs would have been nice, this year has been a step in the right direction. Adam Jones will get to play all of next year and the M's are as loaded in the minors as any team.

    2008 will be a blast.

  • << <i>Everyone and their sister picked the M's to finish dead last, to have no competitive shot. >>

Ax, that's absurd! No one picks a $ triple digit payroll team to finish last!! Chit, I had them in my top 3. With a payroll that high the only question to be asked is do they win the division or settle for the wild card?!

  • << <i>

Prove to me where you picked them.

Prove to me you had them in your top 3.

    Otherwise, SHUT UP.
  • I don't have to prove a friggin thing to you. Anyway why is that so hard to believe? One of the highest paid teams in baseball picked third in the AL is a tough thing to comprehend?

The fact is that you're upset because your team is the biggest disappointment in the league. The Marinateds should apologize to their fans and the entire major league for what they put on.

  • << <i>I don't have to prove a friggin thing to you. Anyway why is that so hard to believe? One of the highest paid teams in baseball picked third in the AL is a tough thing to comprehend? >>

Buffoon, you can't prove it because you didn't predict it. Simple. Slam dunk. Now shut up.

<< <i>The fact is that you're upset because your team is the biggest disappointment in the league. The Marinateds should apologize to their fans and the entire major league for what they put on. >>

You mean making baseball in Seattle fun and relevant again? yeah they should apologize for that. You're right.

And the yankees should apologize for yet another disappointing year with a $200 million salary and now they won't even win the division!

  • yankeeno7yankeeno7 Posts: 9,248 ✭✭✭
You know Ax, you really do argue like a child. The "shut up" really shows how much of a big mouth baby is behind that keyboard.

Now I will wait for your insult in response...this should be good....

  • << <i>You mean making baseball in Seattle fun and relevant again? >>

These are the bigs, dummy. This isn't little league. They play for keeps here, they play to win.

And what about some of your wasted payroll? $15 million plus for a guy is is barely batting above the Mendoza line? Are you kidding me? I hope you're not picking up all of that.

  • << <i>
And what about some of your wasted payroll? $15 million plus for a guy is is barely batting above the Mendoza line? Are you kidding me? I hope you're not picking up all of that. >>

YOU are talking to ME about bad years? So Sexson had a bad year - big deal. The yankee roster is LITTERED with HORRIFIC signings.

    -Pavano, $40 million wasted
-Giambi, posterboy for steroids and can barely walk now given $100 million
-Clemens, $28 million for a .500 record and near 5.00 ERA
-Kei Igawa, $46 million in a desperation move to keep up with the Dice K signing
-Mike Mussina, still owed $23 million despite getting booted to the bullpen
-Abreu making $15 million and having a very similar power numbers year to Sexson. Sexson has more HR (21) than Abreu (17) in 100 less at bats? LOLOLOLOLOL

Now that you've been owned, don't ever, ever talk to me about payroll and wasted dollars again, ok clown?
  • Owned? Here's the bottom line, dope: The Yankees are headed to the playoffs, and the Marinateds are headed for Palookaville. Now who wasted their payroll?

Oh we're going to be talking payroll for a long, long time from now on.
  • Uhm no we aren't.

The yankees are the undisputed KINGS of blowing payroll. Though the Astros with their $88 million payroll and .440 winning percentage is close!

    Now kindly GTFO, ok?

  • << <i>Now kindly GTFO, ok? >>

No, I think that banned members should GTFO. Members in good standing get to stay.
  • I like how you didnt dispute any of my numbers...shows just how accepting yankee 'fans' are of blowing and wasting 10s of millions of dollars in bad signings.
  • What's to dispute? Except for Abreu those guys haven't contributed or aren't playing and yet we're in, and you'll be out.

We also have the 4th best record in the majors over the past 10 years.

So we had a bad year, it's not the end of the world..

I'll take 2 NLCS series, a World Series appearance, and barely missing the playoffs in 3 out of 4 years any day.

    Can "your" team say that?

    Nope.

  • You should be in with a $200 million team salary.
  • Ax, I just hope you can sleep well knowing that your $107 million bought you a 2-14 run at the most critical point of the season. I sure wouldn't.

  • << <i>Ax, I just hope you can sleep well knowing that your $107 million bought you a 2-14 run at the most critical point of the season. I sure wouldn't. >>

And your $200 million payroll hasn't bought you a world series in 6 years. I'm sure I wouldn't sleep well at night with the most resources in the baseball world, having a captain with no heart and no leadership, and a team full of mercenaries.

  • << <i>having a captain with no heart and no leadership, and a team full of mercenaries. >>

  • From 1995, the Mariners first playoff season, to 2006, here are the Mariners and Yankees total payroll divided by number of playoff wins:

    Seattle
    $767,941,959 / 15 = $51,196,130.60 per victory

    New York

    $1,380,353,516 / 74 = $18,653,425 per victory

    Just the facts

  • Payroll per playoff win over the last 12 years? How desperate are you guys?

Rajah, I was just going to post something similar for 1996 on, but yours is just as good:

The Yankees have spent a lot for sure, but they have 6 World Series Appearances in 12 Years!

Seattle has spent over three quarters of a billion dollars for ZERO World Series Appearances.

You've been owned on the subject of payroll, Axtroll. Don't even try to deny it. You could have bought a small country for the amount of bloated payroll the Marinateds have wasted away.
  • Oh, and I see you lost again last night. That's a 2-15 record for a triple digit payroll team, one of the highest in MLB. Disgraceful!!
  • The Mariners were pretenders from day one; they have no true "ace" Queen Felix is 2nd or 3rd starter on "good' teams. Some solid hitters, having decent seasons, but none other than Ichiro worth the money they are paying them.

2-15 their last 17. folded big time under the pressure.
  • anyone know if the M's won or lost yesterday?
  • And I have tickets for next Friday's game between the M's and Angels at Anaheim Stadium. Oh well, at least they are having fireworks after the game!!

EXCELLENT analysis. Thanks for the research. It just shows that people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

If you dont understand the reason that stat was brought up then either you are too stupid to understand the concept or you have no arguement for it because its embarassing to the Mariners. And not only that...who really cares how much any team spends? Proven over and over and over again that spending big bucks guarantees NOTHING. Its a weak arguement and only used for the sake of arguing and thats it.
  • The stat means nothing you twit.

If it meant something I'd like you to give me the breakdown from 2001-2006. I'd LOVE to see THAT stat.

  • Per your request, payrolls from 2001-2006:

    Seattle $420,192,670/4 = $105,048,167 per victory

    New York $ 933,567,646/29 = $32,191,988 per victory

    Just the facts

  • Its as meaningless a 'statistic' as I've ever heard in my life...almost as meaningless as the 'RISP with 2 outs BA'.

  • << Per your request, payrolls from 2001-2006:

It must be absolutely frustrating being a Mariners fan!

Griffey, A-Rod, Tino, and Randy Johnson all left because they simply knew that this team couldn't ever win it all.
With 4 World Series rings and 1 Pennant, Tino Martinez probably counts his blessings every night.

hahaha Tino?!?!?! You're lumping him in with three hall of famers? BWAHAHAHAHAHA

Griffey signed for less money to move closer to his family, and tell me how many full seasons has he played in Cincinatti? Seemed to have been a pretty good non-signing for Seattle.
Arod got a contract no team in baseball would have matched (not even the yankees). Tell me why the yankees didn't sign him after he left Seattle? Oh wait that's right because Texas paid $50 million more than any other team was offering.
Unit had back problems 2 years in a row before he left...would have been a risky move re-signing him. He had tremendous success after he left that nobody could have predicted.

So now that you have your history lesson, perhaps you will make more sense....nah, that won't happen.

  • Everybody likes value and the Yankees definitely got more for there dollar. Both teams have had free agent signings that were a bust, but which major league team hasn't!!

    bwahahahaha

    What a great investment!!!
  • <<Everybody likes value and the Yankees definitely got more for there dollar>>

RightO. The Mariner fans long for 2001 when the Yankees handed their team their arses. At least they made the playoffs that year.

At least we made it to the World Series TWICE in those years that you carefully selected. Don't mention that they won 4 World Series just prior to that.

So let's see again. 6 World Series appearances including 4 wins for the Yanks in 12 years, and ZERO World Series appearances EVER for the Marinateds.

  • haha 6 years and a billion dollars invested = ZERO world series wins...bwahaha.

And pitifully saying 'we came in second twice!!!'

    hahaha
