Wow. I don't believe I've ever seen a coin with that coloring. The fields almost have an almost 'marbled' look to them. Sweet coin, Mesquite!

Thanks! I have never had a real focused (other than toned) view of coin collecting, but last year I discovered and went absolutely nuts over the Canadian dollars from 1958, 67, 71, 72 and 73. There are some real lookers out there (as pharmer and www well know). Here is another of my favorites. This was pulled from a 1973 double dollar set. Real pretty coloration.

Wow again. Nice even toning on that coin. You're getting close to a 'You Suck' award with that one.

This is a coin I once owned until I sold it to ajaan who probably got it slabbed and sold it to someone else who again sold it on the bay to someone else.
I've posted this before - but I'll post it again here. This is one of my favorites due to the fact that this Canada dollar has crescent toning. How did that occur you ask? Well when I received the coin it was in the clamshell case but not properly secured in the plastic holder. I can imagine that over the years the obverse, partially covered by the plastic holder, was exposed to the clamshell foam in such a way as to promote the cresent toning. Somewhere during the process the coin moved to initiate a second crescent. I think it is neat.

Here's a Liteside piece, a rare Civil War token, that I bought from Richard Frajola , an expert in stamps but at times with some South American numismatic treasures too. He posts here as 1covers.
And a lovely key date Crete 1900-A 1 lepton PCGS MS64 BN covered in blue.
Serial number has been changed, because it was cracked out of its MS64 holder, resubmitted raw and upgraded to MS65 by PCGS. It could have even go 66, this is a PQ 65 IMHO.
<---- got to see if I still have a pic of my Avatar one floating around somewhere.
This 8 Reales is a new purchase (well over a month ago that just showed up Saturday December 1, 2007). It may not be the most colorful addition to the thread but I am happy with the condition and toning...

That's the old arms of Milan, actually the arms of the Visconti family. It's a child in the snake's (biscione's) mouth. Most legends attribute it to the Viscontis smiting their enemies one way or another (therefore he's being devoured), though some say the snake is "giving birth" to it, I guess as an allegory for land fertility.

Apologies to the beautifully toned coins in this thread. One of my kids decided to have fun.

Actually, it looks infinitely better. No disrespect, but that Irish design makes me yawn in its brown state...
