Today at the shop this Kid comes in with his mom

Today at the shop this Kid comes in with his mom

He puts four $1 bills on the counter and says two $2 bills please.

I said are you the young man that called on the phone earlyer?
He says "Ya"

(When he called he asked if I had any $2 bills and how much are they.
I said yes and they are from $2-5 dollars each.)

So I get him two nice 1976 $2 bills and he says Thank you with a great big smile.

Then he reaches into his pocket and out comes a SBA $ and a Sac $, he says what do you have for 2Bucks?

So I said Let me see what I have in my secret hidding place.

Well I came back with a old $5 bill with a big lime green seal and handed it to him.

He says Thanks and was all smiles as he went out the door.

    What a guy! image

Lucky kid! The only dealers I ever met as a kid happily took my money and sold me utter crap.
  • I spent 3 $2's Sunday at the corner store and the guy in his 60s working behind the counter kept thanking me over and over. Everyone loves them so much, but no one is willing to ask for them at the bank. I just don't get it.

    Randy,
You are never going to be a cut-throat, fleece-the-granny, SOB, coin dealer if you keep doing nice stuff like that. Watch that kid grow up to be the next Q David Bowers!

I think most people don't even realize they are available at the bank. You will find that many of the people you give them to will ask you "Where did you get these?" Most people think that twos are rare and that they were discontinued many years ago. Believing this, they have never asked for them, and the banks have never pushed them onto people who don't ask for them. Over time the one reenforces the other. People don't ask because they've never received them and the banks don't order them because the people don't ask for them.

Really cool! For a coin dealer, an opportunity to put a smile on a kid's face has to be one of the main reasons to come to work every day.

The kid is probably an expert who told his mom (or accomplice) "look what I can get this dealer to give me because he thinks I'm a cute little kid." He will probably be selling the notes overgraded on eBay tomorrow in fake paper money slabs. image

Just kidding. That was a very nice gesture, and one that will hopefully encourage the youngster as he continues collecting. Good deeds like that will pay off for you many times over.
