My Dansco 7070 Set (BIG PICS!)

AnkurJAnkurJ Posts: 11,370 ✭✭✭✭
New pics up! I didn't bother with the modern page as I am sure everyone here knows what bicentennial coinage looks like!
Some of these have been sold. Hopefully the new owners wont mind me leaving them up.

That is a great looking set of coins that you have put together there.

Only 3 months to complete the set, WOW.

    Congratulations. Now what?

    Very nice!

I've thought about attaching the labels, but I haven't decided if it adds or detracts from the overall look. For now, they're just in an envelope.

I really got lucky with some of these coins, and some of them I did overpay for.

A few notables: (I will add individual scans of these soon)
2 cent piece has very nice blue/purple color
Bust half dime & bust dime are nicely toned, but hard to see in the picture
Barber dime has coffee/light brown toning (you can see this on the reverse picture, the obverse was hit by the flash)
Liberty Seated Quarters with No Motto, Arrows both have nice toning
Liberty Seated Half No Motto has nice toning on the reverse
Liberty Seated Half Arrows has nice toning on obverse
1964 Kennedy Half, and all Commem Halves are toned
Liberty seated dollar no motto is nicely toned
Liberty seated dollar with motto is a Proof

    Thats about it

A very, very nice set. And so quickly put together also.

    You can't hide money.

Does that Seated $ say "Proof"? Wow!

I'm only 9 coins away from being DONE with mine (minus the gold page which I'm not trying to complete)

Let us know when you want to upgrade and sell off some of these! I'm hungry for some of those in your set!

edited to add: you already answered my question about the Proof Seated Dollar....WOW again!

Super nice! Love many of them, but in particular the gorgeous 2C and 3C.
Wanna share the "ballpark" for the expense($) that went into that? Curious.....

Nice set. If I decide to redo the type set again in the future, it will be like this -- either raw or cracked out, attractive EF/AU coins, most likely. This looks so much more fulfilling and enjoyable than a box full of slabs.

Same here, on all accounts. I think that the labels detract from the reverse of the coins.

    Nice, balanced collection. image

After what Seattle Slammer said, I started adding them up.....but I stopped after the first page, I dont want to scare myself image

But lets just say for the first page alone was about $3k (the classic head large cent was a good chunk of that)

Very nice. But why did you do it so fast?

I guess you can have a lifetime to upgrade.

I am stuck on early copper, I put in a nice ms63/64 half cent, and I am having trouble finding nice surrounding pieces I can afford. But hey no hurry.

Why did I do it so fast? Dunno, just had the funds and found nice coins fast.

All of my coins are in the AU/MS range. The coins that are the lowest grades are the capped bust quarter, but it has charm to it. And the Draped half and large cent. I dont have any wish or need to upgrade those because they look nice.

My draped half cent is a VF 20, classic half cent is AU 55, coronet half cent is AU 55.
Draped Large Cent is VF 20, classic large cent is EF 45 (try finding a better one image, coronet large cent is AU 55, braided hair large cent is AU 50
So while not MS, its still not bad.

The ONLY coin I would like to upgrade is the seated dime with stars. But thats it, I am happy with the rest.

I'll bet that really was kinda fun, and you got some nice coins there! How do you like that album, as far as being a storage and display both?

I really like that 1964 Kennedy and your 1913 Buffalo, and that Bust Dime, and those Commemorative Halves, and, and...........

  • AJ,
Wow man you did great. Glad I could be of a little help.
I'm going to take pics of mine soon and post also.
What I did with the tags is just tape them inside the fron and back covers.
Got a small Brother tape maker last xmas(Staples had them free after Rebate) and put little labels under each coin with year , grade and TPG.
It was a lot of work but it keeps the album looking neat(except for inside the covers)

But....what's with the Washingtons? I mean, all that money in the other coins, how come the Washingtons are so, well, circulated looking?

I've been collecting about 3-4 years....

....and I have about 15 pieces. Wow. That's fast.... and beautiful coins as well.
  • Ankur --- Beautiful Collection !!!

It is amazing how quickly you put this all together !! So, are you going to move on to playing golf or do you have another collection in mind?

Perhaps you found one of these coins really called out to you and you might want to try a Date Set?

...and perhaps you'll put any other collection together a bit more slowly...I know for me the feeling of completion is nice...but the excitement of the hunt is the real hit...(and from what I saw of your hunt and your hunting partner...you did enjoy the process...)

    Thanks for the comments everyone!

Regarding the Washingtons. I didnt pay much attention to them as I know they are easy to find in nice shape. I do have a proof set I have been wanting to crack out and put the washington, the kennedy, and the SBA into the set, just havent gotten around to it.

I did complete this fast, but I was very picky about which coins I bought. Thanks to Heritage, teletrade, ebay, and of course dealers at the parsippany show, I was able to get the coins I needed without a problem. Northern Nevada coins was very helpful too. I know there is a big thrill of the hunt, but when I found coins that I liked, I went for it. My favs are the two Seated dollars which both look amazing in person. Many of the other coins are toned, but it was too difficult to capture all of the toners in the pic. The only coin I will upgrade in some time is the seated dime with stars.

Thanks for the compliments. That bust half looked really drab and dipped in the image that nothern nevada coins had on their site. But in hand it came out great with lots of luster. Someday I will take detailed pics of each coin and post them here.

A lot....the two seated dollars, the draped bust and classic head large cents would be the most expensive of the bunch in those grades.
