there was only one coin I didn't like, and it was the seated dime with stars. I have since replaced it with a much nicer example. Besides that... Nothing really!

Just wow. This was an amazing set. If you dont mind me asking what does a 7070 set of this caliber cost to put together. I could only dream right now of something this sweet. But i will dream!!
<< <i>So if you had $50k to spend on a complete 7070 set, and wanted a consistent look and grade for all the coins, what grade would you go for? >>
AU55
However the two seated dollars will prob cost $1k each in that grade. If you go for the gold pages...the 1 ounce pieces will also cost almost $1k each. So thats $4k for just 4 coins!
Might have to go lower in that case. My set cost a lot, I dont even want to start adding it up.

Great looking 7070 Ankur, now I know who has been bidding against me all this time....lol. It's amazing but I have a lot of the exact same grades and dates in mine.......only 16 coins left to go and I'm not looking forward to completing it..... I love the hunt!
Very nice Ankur! I just started my 7070 and I am just trying to fill it with lower grade coins and that is hard enough. Not to mention that I cant afford an AU55/58 7070 right now. I will fill as I am doing right now and upgrade later. Thanks for the photos of yours!

Would probably be about that expensive to get consistent nice looking coins in AU55+ for all of the coins. I'm working on a 7070 now and so far it's Mostly MS, but a few of them I have in AU55 or AU58 (especially the early copper). The seated dollars are pricey, but the cost of the early Half Cents and Large Cents in high grade will blow those out of the water. The big question you'll have to answer for yourself is whether you'll be able to live with cracking out a 3-5k piece of early copper to stick it in an album. I'm guessing you'd want to buy them slabbed to guarantee authenticity and no major problems. I still haven't cracked out my 1814 large cent or my 1804 spiked chin half cent (both in AU55). I will eventually though Finally, if you had 50k to spend on a 7070 and you do it, please post the pics
Ankur - What were the parameters for building the set? Was it as simple as finding something you liked to fill each hole? Were you trying to match the coins in any way?

Was just looking for decent looking coins. I would have liked coins with some toning, but that's tough with all coins. Basically it was the nicest coin I could get for what I paid. And I have to say that I got very lucky with board members, and a few shows (The GSNA show I picked up around 6-7 coins!).

Super sweet 7070, in my opinion. I just received mine in the mail and I'm getting started soon. Thanks for a fine example to emulate, just not in a three month period. I'm afraid it is going to take me just a littttttle longer. Cheers
Man, that is some nostalgia. Type coins were what revived my interest in coins. As a kid, I had done the Lincolns and Indians to some extent, but was B-O-R-E-D.
Then I saw a complete 7070.
The rest is history.
I....wish.... I had kept mine.
I eventually had the FINEST KNOWN 1871 seated dollar in it. It cost $200.00 in 1972! The rest were no slouches. I got upgrade fever as an ADDICTION!
I just sold the red Dansco book on the BST.
I ended up paring it down to a Capital Plastic holder but it wasn't the same.
Then sold off the pieces and finally had the seated dollar graded by PCGS when they first started.
I was so disappointed in the 64 grade that they assigned that it killed my interest in collecting for years.
I ...did.... sell it for double 64 price, but had that coin simply been correctly graded as 65 I'd still own it.
It's a 66 now.
After selling the big guns I put together a circ set again (NOT as nice as yours) but eventually sold most of those too.
Now I have an impersonal and clackety box of coins. It's ...okay... but not the same. AND it's TYPE coins, too.
I never had the courage to crack out for putting in an album.
You are to be commended on a nice set with TERRIFIC eye appeal.

I like it a bunch.
They kept the coins from turning AND they were thick enough to preclude slide marks on the coins.
Kinda tough to slide out the windows, but worth it to have straight and PROTECTED coins.
<< <i>You broke out a doily ?! holy crap. >>
I was floored to see someone break out a doiley. A fantiastic set, to be sure...I would upgrade the bust quarter though.
