NGC says this is a contemporary counterfeit (fourree), but most experts who posted on my thread on the FORVM Ancient Coins boards disagree.
On the Liteside front, I found what I believed to be a counterfeit Peace dollar a few years ago, in a bulk silver dollar lot. Can't find my pix of it now, though, and with the Advanced Search option dead, I give up.

Why fake a non silver or rare year coin? theres a cast mark that runs the middle of the quarter all the way around.

I've got a '65 Quarter Bogo as well. I only bought it because I had the same confusion as you do!
