Lee, I really enjoy your Classic Commem historical pieces!!!

US Grant was certainly a stoic looking fellow...It is interesting that in his tomb there is mosaic of Grant and LEE (his archrival)! I guess that Grant had tremendous respect for Lee and, in a sense, Lee was responsible for defining him.

Now I have to buy one of these Grant Memorial Commems...Thanks alot LeeGimage!

Very good article Lee, I visited Grant's Tomb a couple years ago. It sets just outside Harlem in NYC. About 15 years ago, the tomb was in disrepair and the family threatened to remove the bodies ( the bodies belong to the family and the tomb belongs to the gov't ) unless the tomb was repaired. It is now a mini museum with statues of civil war generals.

    Not many people visit.

Time to re-visit another great early commemorative thread from LeeG.

I took my earlier posted Grant No Star and put it in a SpaceMonkey reflective coin template.

  • Boy there are some really nice looking Grants. I have thought about doing a mini set of just the Civil War commems all of which have nice designs. Thanks Lee for this great series you are doing.

I wanted to bump this thread because I found it last night when searching the forums. There happens to be a picture of a Grant Star Proof posted above by disruptek (I asked not too long ago about proofs in a separate thread). I can conclusively state that the Grant Star that is with our host is not a Proof . But it has many proof qualities about it that made me wonder. And now I'm kind of wondering if it may in fact be similar to the specimen that is in Mr. Bingham's collection...the details are extremely sharp, even more so than the details on the above proof (and more so than any of the Grant Star/No Stars on coinfacts). I suppose we shall wait and see. I'll share the TrueView when it is completed with our host.

Thought others might like to see images of the Star proof. Save them image

WOW!!!!!! Dizzy, this has got to be the most beautiful Grant reverse I've ever seen. Really nice!image I was going to post an image of mine but after seeing yours and all of the others on this thread I won't bother.
The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
