Well I heard back from Cosetta. She wanted more info on the set and the Packers HOF. She was confused when i said that it wasnt the same as the pro football HOF. I sent her a link to the site and told her that we would send her a list of the cards once we have decided on them. Hopefully I will hear back from her tomorrow.

  • A question on the Edgar Bennett card.
The 1992 stadium club #388 card pictures him in his FSU jersey.
Any thoughts on what 92 card to include with him in his Packers jersey?

Here is the list so far. Sorry about the format, things dont copy well from excel. If someone wants I can email the file to them. Comments more than welcome. There are some like the Bennett and soon Brooks that will need some debate on. Also we have to deal with a vast number that really only have Packer HOF cards, at least that I can find right now. I cant find my Beckett password to search on their site by name. I am not sure if PSA would let us use the Packer HOF cards. We would probably need to have someone have them graded first. Not too mention I havent found any yet but I am sure that I could track some down. That would mean we could probably open it up to the full list if they would take the HOF cards.

Guys, I like your idea of using the first card of each player in a PACKERS uniform..Will be very unique venture for the Registry, and fits what I think you are trying to do...My only question is where will PSA list this set? Not really a HOF set, or a Key Card set...More of a Team set, but all of their Team Set listings are cards from the same year...

Like I said before, this could create a new category on the Registry..

I agree. I have heard back from Cosetta and she is interested in hearing more about the set. She hasnt given a thumbs up or thumbs down. So at least we are fine so far. I got my password and I am checking on some of the others to see if they have anything other than the packer HOF set.

I made the changes on your first two. They were already in the file that I started with and didnt double check them. So everyone please double check the list. If you know of an earlier card let me know.

The Taylor, like the Bennett and Brooks (and more in the future) will require some debat and a vote.

btw, psa has already graded a 1992 Packer HOF card. it was a Ray Nits. so they would probably grade all the others. its just if they will take them for the set for those that dont have a regular (or widely available card).

We need to really clarify what cards we are looking for. Will a rookie card of a Packer draft pick in his college uniform count?? If not then the 55 Hutson (which has always been considered his Packer Rookie) will be out so is the 72 Brockington as he is in a blue jersey with white shoulders. I was under the impression that if the player started his career with another team then we were going to pick his first card in a Packer uniform and that this didnt apply to players that started their career with the packers. Was this impression wrong Troy?? I would prefer to stick with the rule that this only applies to player who didnt start their career with the packers.

    Comments from others please.

I agree with Jay. College uniform is fine as long as the player was drafted by the Packers. i.e. Edgar Bennet - Bobby Dillon - Brockington etc.

Well Troy and I sent off this letter to BJ and Cosetta yesterday.

    Dear BJ and Cosetta,

As you both are aware (from previous communications) that Troy Jilot and I are interested in having a new set added to the set registry that would be composed of members of The Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame. We feel that this set would be best under the Key Card sets with the title, The Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame Set. We have asked input from interested individuals that might be interested through the set registry message boards. There is a thread under that listing and has gotten a fair share of attention. The idea for this set was developed on the boards based on the fact that there appeared to be opposition to the addition of some players to the All-Time Packers Key Card set. Many people that participate in many of the all time sets feel that only players that are Pro Football HOF worthy should be included in a Key Card Set. However, many collectors that are Packer Fans feel differently. Below is a description of both the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame and the Green Bay Packer HOF set concept that has been formulated.

The Green Bay Packer HOF, was the first HOF that was opened that was dedicated to a single professional sport franchise. It was opened in 1970, seven years after the Pro Football HOF in Canton, OH. Every year (in most cases) new members are added based on voting by a selection committee. Members of the Packer HOF have made a significant contribution to the Franchise, either on the field or in others means of support for the franchise.

This set is designed to be for both the football fan but also for the die-hard Packer Fans. The cards that have been selected for each member of The Green Bay Packer HOF Set, are either rookie cards (for players drafted by the Packers or their first card was with the Packers) or their first card in a Packer uniform. Like the NFL HOF RC set that is online some of the members do not have cards made by the traditional companies during their playing years. For those members we have picked the first card that was issued post playing career (for example, 1974 Fleer Football Immortals). For some members that never played, the only cards that have been issued were a commemorative set created by the Green Bay Packer HOF. PSA has already graded some of these cards but not all. Since this set is not readily available we have decided not to include those cards for the time being. In addition we would like to restrict the use of regional issues, such as the 1961 Lake to Lake Packers, to players that did not have a regular issued card.

We have picked the cards for the set and have gotten opinions on the cards to include and weight from members of the set registry boards. Like the Pro Football HOF sets, cards will need to be added on a yearly basis. We would expect that these cards would be voted on by set participants just like current key card sets. However, cards are to fit the original description (either a RC or first card in a Packer uniform). Attached you will find the checklist for the set as well as weights.

We hope that you will be able to include this set on the registry. Considering the large following of Packer fans, collectors and history of the franchise to pro football we feel that this set would be a welcome addition to the registry. Please feel free to contact either of us.

    Sincerely,

Here is the response that we got today:

    Hi Guys,

Thank you both, for the checklist and description. We would be happy to add this set to the Registry. Please send in the online ‘set request’ form to officially get this set in the queue. We’ll let you know once the composite is online and you can begin data entering your sets.

    Thank You,

    Cosetta Robbins

Now thats great news. I will post the set as we have requested it later today.

  • Great to hear guys. Good luck with your sets!

This thread has not been updated in a year. Ouch!!

Two new entrants to the Packer Hall of Fame.

Frank Winters Center (Favre is his presenter)
Gilbert "Grave Digger" Brown (Santana Dotson is his presenter)
Al Treml Video Director from 1967 to 2001 (Bart Starr is his presenter)

This will be a heck of a ceremony to attend. I have gone the past three years but this ticket will be tough to come by.

Antonio Freeman and Dorsey Levens have been inducted. I am going to propose the 1994 Bowman card for Levens, his only 1994 card and the Bowmans Best Blue for Freeman from 1996 Bowmans Best. Does everyone agree or should we discuss different cards?

    Awesome game Sunday!

Now that the Pack has another Super Bowl championship, any thoughts to which cards of current players would likely be included in the All Time Packer or Green Bay Packer HOF set, if they are indeed inducted some day? I am not as good with all of the modern variations.

Specific guys I was thinking of were

    Aaron Rodgers
    Charles Woodson
    Clay Mathews
    Greg Jennings

    other possibles

    Mark Tauscher
    Jermichael Finley
    BJ Raji

    Anyone else?

The only one that has a chance if a vote were TODAY to get on the All Time Packer list is Woodson. If it were put to a vote I think Woodson would get on the set. It is too early for the rest of them. In my opinion Tauscher will never make the All Time set but will be in the Packer HOF set in 6 years. Rodgers will also be a Packer HOF but has not earned the All Time set yet in my opinion. If Rodgers wins another Super Bowl next year he is in, period. That is how it is with QB's. The other positions take longer to get on this set IMO.

Jennings only has one Pro Bowl. Matthews is in his 2nd year as is Raji. Great players, just too early to think about All Time for them.

well right now i think we might need to make the case for Woodson for the all-time set. i think he would pass a vote easy. with the win i think he is a lock for the HOF. he is already a DPOY, first team team of the decade 2000, 3 time first team all pro, 3 time 2nd team all pro, 7 time probowler. someone should put him up for a vote. the only thing is that he played 8 years in Oakland and 5 years in GB.

all the others are way too soon. i dont want to have to remove someone because they got hurt or faded away too early in their careers. most of what was named will more than likely make the Packer HOF set at some point. i really want the all time packer set to remain exclusive.

one thing we need to settle on is RC for some of the newer players for the Packer HOF set. Troy...do we have a different thread for that set??

    if not lets discuss here.

for those that dont remember, this set is for members of the Packer HOF. we dont pick who is in the set. however we do get to decide on the card. first rule is that the cards needs to be the players first for the packers. this can be a rookie card in a college uniform or packer uniform. for someone like woodson, however it would be his first card shown in a packer uniform.

with that out of the way we need to think of the brand of card. again for rookies its easy. however, i would say for most we stick with either Topps Chrome or SP Authentic. for some others it might be tougher but most draft picks will fit that bill. for players that came over after stints with other teams we generally go with the first card in a packer uniform. i would prefer to stick with either Topps or Topps Chrome if possible. then again if another company beat topps to the punch then that would be the card we go with. again remember this is really a packers fan set. so we arent always looking for the most expensive card (except for the packer rookies as those turn out to be the most desireable card) for the vets.

We have a few options for Marco Rivera and William Henderson

William Henderson has cards from 1995
    Bowman
    Bowman's Best (Blue)
    Signature Prime

I personally like the Best to match up with Freeman that is already in the set

    Marco is another tough one.

    1998 Upper Deck Packers #29
    1999 Packers Police #14
    2001 NFL Showdown #168
    2004 Bazooka All Star Jersey

I don't like using a Jersey card at all, especially a Pro Bowl one
The NFL Showdown was nationally distributed but is tough to find
Packer Police and Upper Deck Packers were regional.

    Thoughts

i would say the 1998 UD over the 1999 Police. dont like the idea of game or patch cards. UD sets are hard to find at all. Plus there nice big set for Packer fans to collect. I am sure most of us probably have that set anyway.

a few posts above we have some names of players on the current team that might crack the all time set...that will be tough but i do think that C Woodson, Rodgers and with another few good years Clay might just be the ones that do so.

however today i was thinking more along the lines of who from the current roster(s) will make the Packer HOF, clearly the SB win has pretty much written the tickets of a few of these guys.

those from before the SB 45 win...
    for sure...
    Favre (no kidding/joking)
    Clifton
    Tauscher
    Driver
    Green
    Woodson
    Al Harris
    Longwell
    Sharper
    Holmgren

    close....
    Collins
    Rodgers

after the win the for sures are...
    Rodgers
    Jenngings
    Collins
    Mathews
    McCarthy
    T. Thompson

    closing fast...
Nelson (had a killer game in the SB)
    Raji
    T. Williams
Jenkins (but might miss out with the odds of him not being on the team next year)

chance but need more time (or SB wins)...
Wells (another SB win would probably do it)
Sitton (just more years in GB)
Raji (more years at a high level will just ice it after the key plays he had down the strecth and in the playoffs)
    Bishop and/or Hawk
Barnett (its sad his missed his SB chance at present, if he would have been healthy i would have moved him to the in group...though he has enough service time in with the Packers that he might make it even if he is off the team next year)

all this said i would like to start working on a list of cards for these players. i think first we need to agree on the no patch/auto issue. that would throw out many of the newer rookies. we would also have to stay within the #ed to over 999 as well. i would also like us to come up with some type of standard for the cards that we would pick from here on out for most of these players...say either a Topps Chrome or SP Authentic Rc's for Packer draft picks, then maybe straight Topps for trades/FA pick ups.

I think you missed a few to be considered. Love talking Packers during the off season :-)

Brian Noble (don't know why he is not in but I am sure it has to do with contract crap since he was his own agent)
Ryan Grant (you know Thompson will have him put in, best trade he completed to date or maybe the Claymaker)
    Tim Harris
Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (All time leader in sacks)
    Darren Sharper

Jordy Nelson is not even close to making it in, regardless of his Super Bowl. Talking about guys with 3 years or so in the league is premature at this stand point.

As for a template for future cards I have no problem sticking to a premium brand like SP or Topps Chrome. I don't want to go low end like Topps or Score.

I think we need to follow the Pro Football Hall of Fame's lead here and have ANY card serial'd above 999. I also agree, no Jersey or Auto stickers. If an auto is needed for some funky rookie the auto needs to be on the card, non of this sticker crap. But I am sensitive to allowing this. I have a couple of autos that have faded to nearly nothing.

A nice helping hand would be this list of Packer cards.

I have one from 2007 and need to update it. It has helped out a lot figuring out the cards of players.

i know jordy was a reach but if he plays awhile longer and takes over for DD then i think he will be in. lets be honest Robert Brook's numbers arent the best either.

for cards its actually easier to use the beckett site. you first serach by player, then filter for team. you get all the first packer cards that way too.

here is what i have so far. i havent looked up the those that need more time...i just like to think down the road a bit.

    Harris
    Noble
    Favre (1992 TSC)
Clifton (2002 Packers Police or 2005 Topps Total with Tauscher and Flanagan)
Tauscher (see above, might need to go with the Police cards since they are of the players themselves)
    KGB
    Driver (1999 Fleer Focus)
Green (01 (Bowman, Bowman Chrome, eTopps (#1105), Finest, SP Authentic, Topps, Topps Chrome (tons of others as well))
Woodson (06 Topps, Topps Chrome, Total, Turkey or Ultimate)
Al Harris (03 Topps Total with M. McKenzie, 05 Packers Police, 08 Topps)
Longwell (98 UD Shopko, 99 Packers Police, 01 Fleer Tradition)
Sharper (97 UD Collectors Choice, 97 Playoff Contenders)
Holmgren (92 Proline or Packers Police)

after the win the for sures are...
Rodgers (05 Bowman, Score, Topps, Topps Total, Turkey, Leaf Cert Mat (# to 1000), Topps Heritage, UD Rookie Premier, UD, Topps Chrome, eTopps (# to 1200),
Jenngings (06 Playoff Prestige, Fleer, Topps, Topps Total, UD, Topps Chrome, SPx (# to 1299), Score, Bowman, Turkey, Bowman Chrome)
Collins (05 Leaf Rookies and Stars, Bowman, Bowman Chrome, Topps Factory Set RC (only in Packer set), SPx (# to 1199))
Matthews (09 Score, UD, Topps, Topps Chrome)
McCarthy (06 Bowman, Bowman Chrome, Packers Police)
    T. Thompson (05 Packers Police)

not buying the grant just yet...just like nelson. at least nelson had a killer game in the big one.

the Rodgers should be the Topps Chrome. that is what went into the SB MVP set and would the card of potentially in the future for either the All Time Packers set, All Time QB set, Future HOF set etc. not meaning to jump the gun but we might as well be consistent when it comes to true Rookies in our set.

Here is a quick update for cards for Harris, Noble, KGB.

    Harris 87 Topps
Noble 86 McDonalds, 86 Packers Police, 88 Topps
KGB 02 Fleer Tradition, Fleer Authentix, Playoff Prestige

    Here are my votes

    Harris (1987 Topps)
    Noble (1988 Topps)
    Favre (1992 TSC)
    Clifton (2002 Packers Police)
    Tauscher (2002 Packers Police)
KGB (02 Fleer Tradition, Authentix or Playoff Prestige)
    Driver (1999 Fleer Focus)
Green (01 eTopps (#1105), SP Authentic or Topps Chrome)
    Woodson (06 Topps Chrome)
    Al Harris (08 Topps)
    Longwell (01 Fleer Tradition)
    Sharper (97 Playoff Contenders)
    Holmgren (92 Proline)

Overall this is the preference I have for cards.

1.) First National Issued Card if possible in Packer Uniform (knocks off the 2000 Topps Ahman Green (has Seahawks uni even though they mention the trade on the front)
2.) Single Picture card if possible (that would make the Topps Total dual and trio cards out of play)
3.) Has to numbered over 1000 if numbered
4.) From a premium product if possible.

I think that explains my picks so far. I am still debating the Green and KGB cards.

    2. BOBBY DILLON - 1952 BOWMAN #98

    3. BILL FORESTER -1956 TOPPS #79

    4. GALE GILLINGHAM - 1970 TOPPS #131

    5. CHARLES WOODSON - 1998 SP AUTHENTIC #23

Please reply with a yes or no choice for each player.

    1.Yes, add.

    or

I voted NO on all 5.

When I look at the set as it stands today... when I look back on Packers history... I was close to saying yes on Howton, but in the end, he's not in the same league as the rest of the set and just doesn't quite fit in.

I stand pat on my belief that Woodson is not yet an all-time Packer... five seasons with the team is just not enough... and in my view, only 2 of those seasons were truly outstanding, 1 pretty good, two just kind of decent.

Throw that vote at me again in 3-4 years, and Woodson has at least another 2-3 years in a Packers uniform... I might then consider him an "ALL TIME PACKER"... but not yet, still way too early for such a high distinction.
  • FavreFan1971FavreFan1971 Posts: 3,103 ✭✭✭
Someone tried to put Howton through about 6 months ago and he failed.

In these newly requested players only Woodson is close to making the set.

Each of the other players are already in the Packer HOF set. The All-Time Packer set is exactly what it is. The All Time best at each position.

    1. BILL HOWTON - 1952 BOWMAN #21 - Hutson, Lofton, Driver, Sharpe - He is not better than them. McGee, I think he was better but you also have Dowler to think about being an all decade 1960's - I vote No

    2. BOBBY DILLON - 1952 BOWMAN #98 - Four first team All Pro's but he is not better than Adderly, Butler, Wood, and now Woodson. He was good but not good enough to beat who is on this list.

    3. BILL FORESTER -1956 TOPPS #79 - Most people who don't follow the Packers are saying who is Bill Forester. He was a stud for a four year run for the Packers. He, Nitschke and Dan Currie were a formidable set of linebackers. He made All Pro three times but in my opinion he was part of an amazing defense that put players in the all star games on Team name alone. Kind of like Andy Russell of the Steelers. I vote no because we have Nitschke and Robinson

    4. GALE GILLINGHAM - 1970 TOPPS #131 - Is he better than Gregg, Ringo, Kramer, and Thurston? I don't think he was. Great player but not good enough to make this set.

    5. CHARLES WOODSON - 1998 SP AUTHENTIC #23 - I will vote no, has not played long enough

I vote no on all five

Does anyone know who requested the players? I did not get this in my inbox to discuss prior to PSA asking for a vote.

i dont know who sent this in. wasnt me.

the only reason i see to consider either howton or dillon is that they have been brought up for HOF contention. though as been mention here howton has been voted on before. still not sure about dillon i need a little more thinking.

Well, I'm guessing that Woodson will make it in, which is a shame... perhaps I should just start requesting a vote for current players on the Packers who are hot at the moment!!! Come on, seriously guys???

Here are my problems with Woodson (right now)...

    1) He's played 8 of his 13 seasons for the RAIDERS... not the PACKERS... and we want to crown him an ALL-TIME PACKER? Already? Seriously?
    2) He's been 1st All Pro, and Def. POY, 1 time in his 5 years with the Packers... and it's easy to argue he wasn't even the best defender in 2009 when he was awarded the POY!
    3) He's going to be considered an All-Time Packer... which still bugs me a little with Ahman but he did set the franchise rushing record so I let that pass on that merit alone... but C-Wood currently ranks tied for "8th" on the all-time Packers interception list... a tie with a part time playing two way Wide Receiver (Don Hutson)
    4) Last, but not least, he's still a Packer... he's still freakin' playing... who knows what could happen in the next few years? Maybe he'll suck! Maybe he'll be great! Maybe he'll get busted for drugs! Maybe he'll save a burning Green Bay orphanage! We don't know, but anything could change our opinion of him next year, the year after... to the point you might be saying, yeah, he's not really an all-time Packer... right now it's just too easy to put him in that class... and honestly, in my opinion, without enough merit to do so today!

Like I said before, revisit the question in 4 years... I might change my mind (and if he continues to do well and build a real legacy, I absolutely will)... but you might change your mind too, and realize, for whatever reason, maybe ya'll jumped the gun here.

Okay, that's my final two-cents of contributions to the topic, I've said my piece.

    rebuttal...to your points

1.) while he was with the raiders longer he was selected to the first team all decade team of 2000's for a good part due to his play with the Packers. his selection to this team will nearly give him a ride to canton. that and the SB that they won this year ices it in my view. when he left that game is when the steelers came back (well and the jones drop of the 70+ yd TD).

2.) Ok, well he only had 1 1st team All Pro with the Raiders too. Add to that the people that beat him out when he was 2nd team with the Packers 2008 and this year were Revis/Asomugha and in 2008 were Asomugha/Finnegan. In 2007 he should have gotten some love but we all know how those votes go, generally a reflection of the past year. When he played better than Harris who made the 2nd team. As for his DPOY you could say the same about Clay not getting this year. When he went out of the Redskins game there was no rush and the skins came back, until then the couldnt get many passes completed. Oh and the phins game we CM didnt play we didnt get a sack and lost in OT again.

3.) 8th all time in INTS is right but he has the record for most defensive TD's over Adderley (a HOFer) in just those short 5 years (vs 8 for Adderley and 8 for Sharper the two that held the record before). Also holds the record for INT returns for TD's.

4.) He already got people out of buring building last off season. image

considering he is nearly a lock for the HOF i dont think this is jumping the gun at all. ahman is more the worthy of his place after setting the all time rushing record. and he earned the second chance after getting a sweet deal in FA and the hard work he put in for the packers before. the other player that belongs here in my mind is longwell...all time score leader for the most important NFL team.
