Is a coin collection also like a shark?
I don't know about the collection itself but a decent number of the market participants certainly are.
To me the Boards are also an aspect of coin collecting... reading them can be my numismatic fix. I've got enough books in my numismatic library to keep me happy, and while I may occasionally buy a new one, for the most part it is MANY years in between numismatic book purchases.
With regards to actually collecting coins, I can certainly go through hibernations, and changes in the amount of money that I feel comfortable dropping on coins, but the background interest stays there. Each person is different in that regard, just as some sharks don't need to always keep moving forward, but can sit there waiting for the prey to appear before their eyes.
Sad to hear it @RYK ... You certainly taught me much of what I know about gold and many of the best coins in my collection carry the RYK provenance. Maybe a few more too in the future...
Just remember, there are a lot of moving sharks in the coinworld....and they devour collections much as a shark will devour a baby seal..... One gulp and gone....leaving only a memory behind. Cheers, RickO

A collection doesn't necessarily have to move forward in composition if it can move forward in appreciation. And with rising PM prices, there's no shortage of appreciating coins now.
Who goes back and edits a post they made 6 years ago? Did you just first remember to do it?

Mainly, I go back and edit formatting in old posts because the migration from the old forum can result in awfully formatted posts, especially when quoting previous posts is turned into non-processed HTML.
So the answer to your first question is people that don't want their posts to be malformed, old or new
The answer to your second question is that this editing wasn't necessary until the forum migration. I only update them when I happen to run across them.

OCD is alive and well! The right doctor could clean up around here!

Only problem is that collecting can be considered OCD and it might mean less collectors!

If upgrading your collection is the method of moving forward I would say yes. Buying more coins to increase the size is a big fat NO.

Those are cougars, not sharks.
Of course, cougars have been known to eat coin collections too...
